wrapping my brain around the routing

Post by swishniak » Sat Mar 08, 2008 4:01 pm

so i would like to record samples back into live after running it through some effect units patched in through a mixer.

i have the audio coming out of my FA1o1 audio card into the mixer, and am taking the "record out" of the mixer back in through the FA101.

i have and audio track set up for the inputs with monitoring set to OFF. its seems like it records the sample fine (i checked the file in quicktime player), but playing it back in Live results in some strange, digital sounding feedback.

which shoudlnt be the case if monitoring is switched off, or?

i am missing something here? thanks in advance.

i checked out rolands page for the fa101. it seems you have direct monitoring, controlled by a knob... does the interface come with digital mixer software? if so, it will not matter if you have live's channel turned off, you will still get the signal returning and leaving (audible) thru the sound card, if you don't have the routing setup properly. try adjusting some settings on the sound card, and see if this clears up some issues, my guess would be user inexperience... hth

dcease - thanks for doing the research that i should have done :?

there is a knob on the front the changes the mix between monitor / out 1-2.

somehow i assumed LIve would deal with this routing from within the program. but the FA 101 uses no other software and the driver has never, to my knowledge, been updated - one of my major complaints with the unit - so its no surprise.

ill check this tomorrow when i get back in the studio - thanks.
