The MIDI daisy-chain

Hi there, I hope some1 can help me hear.
I have been trying to daisy-chain 3 lappys up all running Ableton.
The problem I had was that 1 of the lappys kept drifting out of sink.
I used the tapping buttons at the top of Ableton to get it back into sink,
but it kept drifting out.
I am aiming to link 4 lappys in all. Is there a better way of going around this problem,
Or am I missing something?

One master MIDI out to three slaves shouldn't be a problem, but daisy-chaining the MIDI can be a problem.

I'd recommend a four-port MIDI interface on the master rather than daisy-chaining, or if they're Macs, do it via networking (wired or wireless).

Tapping has nothing to do with recovering lost sync.

I'm trying to do the same thing with 3 mac laptops.
We have set the wireless lan through the midi network app of osx.
But one laptop is ever going out sync afetr some time.
Any suggestion?
We have thought to use a router and ethernet cables..but we haven't did yet this test.

assuming the OP really has MIDI sync'ed the three other laptops as tempo slaves.

You aren't just typing in the same BPM on all 4 laptops, right?

Gotta ask.

As for a hub, yeah, a 4x4 interface is as cheap as a hub I think. Still, I use

but before you buy anything, put the one laptop that goes out of sync in a different place in the daisy chain... like first in the chain, and see if the problem is specific to one computer, or specific to one position in the chain (last?), or specific to one MIDI cable (they go bad with time).
