Converting to mp3

Post by light » Mon Mar 24, 2008 11:42 pm

I did as the manual directs to rendering files to disc so that they are in wav. formate. I then downloaded a temporary mp3 converter to get the files in either wma or mp3 formats. But when it finished (although it never looked like it was converting anything) the file it left me with is only a split second long and thats it. I sent it to a friend and they weren't able to play it either.

Can anyone advise me on this please?

Im using ableton live 6 btw on a pc, averagely good spec, and a line 6 toneport interface.

If Live exports the .wav correctly, this is a problem with your converter programme and not Live.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Please if anyone has any further advice it would be much appreciated. I've tried several converters and tried dragging it into iTunes.

What should I do?

What converters work successfully?

I use audacity to convert wavs to mp3
- open the wav in audacity
- select all
- export as mp3

Yeah tried that as well now. Still doesn't work. I dont get it cuz it opens fine in Ableton. But in any other play it only plays about a split second of the 1st note of the song.

Anyone know why this may be?

you did render the audio in ARRANGEMENT view, right?

If you rendered in session view, it will only render the selected audio clip.

Make sure your left and right markers are set to beginning and end in arrangement and render the master track from there.

Convert your mp3 using any kind of mp3 converter to hand. Should be no problem...

Are you also sure you selected the ENTIRE song when you exported it, not just a little snippet?

On the linear side, look at the top of the arrange view, you need to be sure the whole song (or at least as much as you want to export) is selected by the "brackets" (I forget what it / they're called)...

edit: ermm... or what leedsquietman said...
