REALLY long latency on brand new Macbook Pro...Why?

Post by Hassouni » Fri Mar 28, 2008 3:23 pm

I recently got a new Macbook Pro and put my old edition of Live 5 on it, which I have yet to upgrade to the Intel version. While playing around with it in demo mode, the audio settings show really, really high default latency, and the lowest I can set it without horrific crackle is something like 11ms at 100 samples. I thought it may have something do with it being non-intel compatible, so I installed the Live 7 demo, and the same problem. What's going on?

That's normal for the internal sound. Intel Mactop onboard sound does not run as fast as PowerPC Mactop onboard sound. RME Expresscard will give you lowest possible latency.

Thanks for the reply. The RME stuff seems inordinately expensive, is there anything for less? Or is that sample/latency rate acceptable for most applications?
