latency compensation

Post by k7michal » Fri Apr 04, 2008 3:30 pm

so. I am using either the Tascam US-122 usb sound card or the Mackie Onyx Satellite (fire wire) on my Athlon64 single core laptop and I'm having latency compensation issues.

I set up the compensation so that my "overall latency" = 0.00 ms and then start doing over dubs. The problem is they are always out of synch (a lot!!). I've tried different types of drivers, the two different sound cards, rebooted the laptop with every change that I made in preference but still nothing!!!

things seemed fine when I had my Tascam set up, but then when I switched to the Mackie and back for some reason the compensation just isn't responding..

any ideas?

Hi,

it would be good to know, how exactly you set up your audio preferences. Please note, that the Driver Error Compensation parameter does NOT work as a direct compensation of your latency. Instead, it´s only relevant in a Direct Monitoring scenario.
Please refer to the integrated "Setting up audio I-O" lesson. It will guide you through setting the right buffer size settings for your system.
If you use Direct monitoring, you might also want to adjust the Driver Error Compensation. Please refer to the lesson of the same name to adjust that correctly.
You can access the lessons through Live´s help menu ("All Lessons").

Btw:
I would also recommend to download and install the latest update, Live 7.0.3, you can find it here: www.ableton.com/latest_versions
