I have a pretty elaborate live set I am working on, about 50 tracks right now. However, it has gotten to the point where as soon as I open up the set, before even pressing play, my CPU usage is around 40%.
What could possibly be sucking up so many CPU cycles without doing anything?
FWIW I am on a macbook pro 2.2 with 4GB of RAM, hardly a sloucher.

Try disabling Live's audio engine, does the CPU load still exist? What does Mac OS tell you about the real CPU load? It's well possible that you're running out of RAM and thus your computer is busy swapping all the time (disc activity?).

I've had similar issues on my laptop.Does the cpu shoot up when you press play/stop?It only happened in large projects with lots of plugins and fx but it's much better on my main daw.
