OT: tips for London next Saturday/Monday?

Post by davec1 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 8:47 pm

HI guys, I'm going to london, and I wondered if anyone knows about any cool (electronic) music events on saturday night or monday night. Or any other recommendations for that great city...

I arrive at the airport at 6.20 p.m., but when I look online, lots of start seems to start at 7 p.m. Do they really start that early? (over here it's at least 9p.m. before anyone starts playing) or is that just when they open the doors?

thanks for any advise you want to share....

I arrive at the airport at 6.20 p.m.
Which airport? which ever don't expect it to be a speedy experience with the sort of customer service you get from BAA.

There is hope - I just heard a documentry on the radio saying the competition regulators here may break them up.

My mate is playing in London on the Sunday night (4th May) at a place called Retox, in Shoreditch. Also playing is Colin Dale, Vera, someone from Cocoon and others. Details are here http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =110238579

I will say, though, that I don't know London at all so I can't speak for what else is on there. Give me a PM if you are thinking of coming down.

I'll be visiting someone on 4th...

I wasn't totally accurate....I'm less interested in clubbing than in live music (electronic, heavy metal, anything)....

I really liked what these guys had on their myspace page so I might go see this http://www.timeout.com/london/music/eve ... erted.html

anybody know jellybass or diverted?

edit: oh, and I'm flying with easyjet, so first I have to get from luton to london...

Never been to Luton but there is a direct train to London, about 45 mins I'd say.

Here's a link to the timetables: http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/jp? ... earch=true

Probably better than Heathrow!

i think you can get a train from luton to london kings cross station in about half an hour or so, maybe a bit more.

me and the mrs are going to see laurie anderson at the barbican on saturday night, there may still be tickets if you're lucky

they sometimes do free stuff in the foyer too, have a look at the south bank centre as well

or look here : http://www.timeout.com/london

or go drinking. i would recommend the princess louise in holborn, the red lion in angel, the lamb and flag in covent garden, the cock tavern on great portland street, gordons down embankment gardens, the red lion in piccadilly.......

i'm playing live psytrance at a warehouse party in london on sat 3rd... not sure where it is yet, but the last one had a coupla thousand people :) there will be fewer live performances though, and a psysquat probably isn't the best introduction to london's live electronic scene ;)

luton to london can be done via bus (long, cheap) train (shorter, more expensive) or taxi (fuck that). easybus do tickets to Baker St for around £5, i think.
digitally yours

Yeah pick up time out when you arrive.
Or have a look online at venues such as Scala in kings cross and koko in camden.
I have not checked but there may be something on in them. Also a lot of places in Shoreditch also worth checking bethnal green working mens club, always something pretty mad going on there.
you missed the orb playing live on thursday, cud are playing friday at scala.
Lots of rock venues in camden.
But definetly get time out. that lists everything that is on

Go to Buzzinfly at Plastic people on Curtain Road. My brother is playing alongside label Boss Ben watt (etbtg). It starts at 2pm and finishes at 2am.
