Is Live 7 broken?

Post by robocop » Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:22 pm

Since live 7.0.2 I have problem loading big sample libraries in impulse/simpler/sampler, my disk become slow and live become unusable, sometimes the disk icon turn for a minute and Live crash.
Anyone can help, I have try to put my library on my internal DD 5400 Macbook C2D 2,3GHZ 2gram and on a FW800 lacie external 7200, but I get the same results???

Hello robocop,

Do you have the same problem with Live 7.0.5?

To be more precise:

Spec: Macbook Pro C2D 2,33GHz, 2go ram
Mac OS X 10.4.11
Live 7.0.5

Problem: Glitch and pops using big samples library, like loading ONLY 1 TRACK with the PUREMAGNETIK PURPLE KIT for SAMPLER (I bought sampler yesterday because I thought that he could handle many samples better than Simpler....it doesn't).
In general when too much samples are playing(Big Drumracks w/ chain layering) Live7 start to become slow and unstable....I have try to put my samples library on a clean formated partition, defragmented with Techtool pro 4, still I have glitchs.

Q: 1.My internal DD is a 5400 sata 8m cache; Is my Hard Drive too slow to manage big sampler library(Purple Kit,Teebee for Sampler)?
2.My external DD is a 7200 FW800 8m cache Lacie Rugged but it is not enough...

THE BIG Q: DO I NEED 16meg OF CACHE AND SATAII transfer rate(1,5 or 3ghz) to WORK PROPERLY WITH SAMPLER(ableton)??????????

Thanks

P.S:audio buffer is 2048 :(

EDIT: Musick, you are right!!! IT IS BETTER WHEN THE AIRPORT IS OFF.
I will investigate this a bit more...

Thanks Musick, kind thoughts :)

.. I have also checked my power setting(HD stop set to never ect, ect), kill the dashboard with Onyx(should I try to kill the dock?),killed some background processes to release some ram, tried with Caffeine to prevent sleep screen....
What more can I do??

robocop - there is nothing to investigate - according to ableton support, the latest soft update for airtport causes music software including ableton live being extremal unefficient. To prevent that it is suggested to switch the airport off when working with sound.
Apple crew is working on that as they say.
