why is it fucked up ? Ableton just decreased the price of session drums -it happens all the time?

I think it's because they're underbidding the entire industry, basically. Much like, oh, I don't know, Logic? But comparisons to software don't even make sense here.chrisedmo wrote:why is it fucked up ? Ableton just decreased the price of session drums -it happens all the time?
They're trying to corner a market aggresively by losing on the hardware, and then making the money back through micropayments for software and such. Good idea from a business stand-point, but ethically... erhm. Not so much.
not fucked up at all. Everyone knows that you never buy any piece of tech when they come out unless you are prepared to pay more for buggy, slower and less polished gear. Apple, Korg, Ableton, Naitive Instruments, Microsoft, Dungeons and Dragons, etc.
Unfair would be if they suddenly stopped support for the i(wish I waited)Phone G1 and left the early adopters in the dust while still charging them to use it.
SUCCCAZ!

yeah i know.. it doesn't bother me - this is what happens with technology - as people buy more - the price goes lower, and i know what you're saying about losing customers, but then how many more do they make ? think about how many people bought logic - and now how many more people are gonna get an iPhone ?

You're reaching pretty hard with this. Ethically there isn't any wrong doing in lowring the price of an item once it's been out for a while, in fact forcing your original price on new users just to make buyers who've already been using said product for X amount of time happy is less ethical IMO. Rumor was that AT&T is willing to help pay for the iPhone, just like many companies do for other phones, and I'm willing to bet that the other carriers are also willing.... it makes sense.Machinate wrote:I think it's because they're underbidding the entire industry, basically. Now offering a reward for early adapters just like they did with early iPhone buyers last year also makes sense, but everybody knew this was coming, so it's less likely.
Also, last month people would be complaining that the iPhone was too expensive, so which is it? Too expensive or too aggressively priced, or is it that it's an Apple product, so we must all line up to deride the business model, and comment on how they are shafting the other companies-early adapters-end user because they aren't competing fairly-starting off a fixed price point and sticking to it-releasing the sdk quick enough/giving enough 'features' ???
who's reaching hard here? You seem to be lumping me in with ...quite a lot of different groups of people there.
They're dumping the prices, through corporate "subsidies" from AT+T and the likes, and general market aggression... , to what seems to be a seemingly unsustainable price. They have a size and distribution network that makes this feasible, but that's an ugly way of working to me, much like locking messenger into XP, which MS did, or other monopoly-seeking endeavours.
Nothing in there is "hidden knowledge", nor is it a stretch of the imagination, really.
