Sequencing a Modular Synth with DAW

Post by Clockpulse » Tue Jun 17, 2008 2:57 am

Can you sequence a modular/analog synth that has CV to MIDI converter from a Laptop/DAW with a MIDI Interface connected (USB) ? Would it trigger notes? Note Velocity? Polyphony? Pitch control?

You will need a MIDI-CV converter, yes.

The MIDI-CV converter should have at a Gate out and a CV out. You plug the CV out into your oscillator(s) and the Gate out into your Envelope Gate/Trigger input. Usually it will translate pitch bend for you.
Velocity you have to set up yourself. You will need an extra controller out of your MIDI-CV converter for this, cant remember exactly how to set up atm, depends on what you want to do aswell.

Polyphony??? You will need a seperate voice for each note!! I.e. one osc, env, vca, filter for each note. If you want polyphony I would not go into modular synthesis. Get a good analogue polyphonic like the DSI Evolver keyboard. Or both ;)
