deleting unused files

Post by pmk » Thu Jun 19, 2008 3:21 pm

hello friendly helpful people out there.

my problem is this...
most of the samples in my main library are in one massive mess in the samples folder (my library had previously been a project for some stupid reason). i want to delete a lot of these files. for example in recordings of bands i want to delete all the takes that aren't used. how do i do this without either noting the names of every track i want to remain and manually deleting the rest, or self containing each set one by one then deleting the messed up library???
i'll be sooo chuffed if you can solve this for me.
thanks.

I'm not sure how much this helps the library situation, but you can "manage files", then "manage project", "show unused samples".

It'll show them in Live's browser and then you can delete em knowing you're not deleting any files that project needs.

Those files might be in use by other projects if they're from your library, so that could get ugly. But if you don't think they are, you can do this for each project and whatever is left can be your new library. Sort of.

File management sucks. In general you'll only screw it up REALLY BAD once because you NEVER EVER want to go through this pain again. Good luck.

Don't be too afraid to delete some samples. You'l find away to manage, and then you'll have a library that's nicely organized and work a lot faster. hopefully.

actually no...

They always say, "you look like stephen Lynch, just WAY funnier and stronger and better looking and a better speller too"

That's usually what they tell me. ;-)
