Send Clip Envelope MIDI Anywhere

Post by thelizard » Thu Jul 03, 2008 3:31 am

This frustrates me...

Let's say I have a synth on MIDI track 1, and I create an additional MIDI track to send more MIDI to track 1 (in this case achieved by "Send MIDI to"). If I create a new clip on track 2, and open the envelope editor, track 1's plug-in information is not made available in the track 2 clip envelope editor.

THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED

If an empty MIDI track is slaved to a MIDI track with a plug-in, the slave track should "see" all of the plug-in's parameters.

After thinking about that, I decided to make an even more in-depth feature request:
CLIP ENVELOPES SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE ANY AVAILABLE TRACK

This doesn't just include the plug-ins, but also the mixer controls on every track (pan, volume)... Obviously, this would need a new nested menu system to organize this (You would click the drop-down box and see Track 1, Track 2... each one would have a slide out menu showing what's available. Either that, or add one more drop down box above the other two with a track selector).

There are too many useful things that can be achieved by this:

-Let's say every time I launch a certain drum clip, I want the filter envelope to open on a separate bassline clip. I can create this envelope on the drum clip itself (instead of creating two different bassline clips and having to launch it separately)!
-Follow action modulations. An entire MIDI track could be dedicated to different filter movements, and these could be given elaborate follow instructions.
And, last but not least...

-THIS COULD BE THE EASIEST WAY TO IMPLEMENT A RUDIMENTARY LFO DEVICE.
Think about it... if a clip envelope could send MIDI anywhere, all it would need are a few waveform presets.
(However, the LFO device I would like to see in Live would be much more complex, as we would need to be able to automate the speed of the LFO, and morph waveforms... yadda yadda...)

If we could see this feature, and also absolute/relative control, I think that clip envelopes would be the next big thing in Live. Right now, they are already incredibly useful, but it is just so frustrating to imagine how much better they could be...

anybody agree? I still think about this every time I use Live.

Your post was probably too lengthy for most to read :P

I agree though. Improved MIDI flexibility is always a good thing :)
