What key Note??

Post by Deland01 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 1:35 pm

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a guide to what elements in a track should be in what key note? I understand that if you have too may sounds in the same key they the track will start to sound muddy and un-clear.

Does anyone always use a set method like they always use the Kick as C, or they will only use hi’hats from the top end of the keyboard

Any help would be welcome

Are you talking about having tuned drums? That's what it sounds like you're asking about...

alin55 - thats exactly what I was talking about. I gues I may have been confusing frequency with Key.

Yeah : your ears....

Sorry, but you'll just need to listen and practise.
Sometimes the use of a spectrum analyzer can be a nice visual aid.

Can't quite remember where, may have been here or the nuskoolbreaks or DOA forums, but I have seen something ssimilar. Kicks hitting at 100-150k, snares 200k, lead at xxx etc.

Nokatus - this DVD is brilliant & just what I’ve been looking for although, the Russian dude certainly knows his stuff but he’s kinda hard to understand in parts. I guess the thing what I’ve been trying to work out for so long is just called EQing, making sure all the frequencies are in there for a good professional sounding mix.

No prob. It was Phat Conductor here on the forums who made me notice this video, in his Mixing Thread (plenty of other good tips in that thread too, btw).

It's a quality video for sure. I didn't find the accent too distracting, just went for a short rewind a few times :). If you find it difficult to overcome the accent, grab the transcript pdf from the same directory and follow it along as you're watching.
