MPD32 Note Repeat help.
MPD32 Note Repeat help.
Hi guys,
I have been trying out the new Akai MPD 32 and I'm trying to get the note repeat happening.
I can make it work when the MPD is master but can't seem to make it work when live is the master.
So My settings are below. I have tried lots of different combo's but when note repeat is on nothing plays, when it's off everything is fine.
Any suggestions or screen shots of preferences would be greatly appreciated.
MPD 32 INPUT TRACK ON
MPD 32 OUTPUT SYNC ON

I got an MPK49 but I guess it's the same software setup as an MPD32.
With below midi setup, and the MPK on external mode, I get perfect sync with the arp and the note repeat. You can also see three different time divisions recorded straight into live by holding a pad on the MPK. Hope it helps ..
Sorry for the big picture ..
EDIT: To be clear about this; Live acts as the Master, when I change tempo in Live the tempo of the note repeat and arp follow perfectly in sync.. so it works.

Thanks Fred, was this recorded with quantize off?
Does note repeat sync with beats or click in Ableton.
Also I notice you are on PC, I wonder has this any relevance.
Can anyone else confirm that Akai MPD32 Note Repeat works properly with Live 7, master or slave?

Can't remember but I guess you already tried it yourself now .. I don't think PC or MAC has any relevance to this. But what do you mean by clicks or beats ?

I tried syncing the MPD32 Note Repeat with Reason.
With MPD set as the master, Note Repeat synced 90% correctly. Timing was a little off but not nearly as much as Live.
Essentially MPD32 Note Repeat and Reason work. This would suggest the problem is with Live.
I have found a workaround solution for Live.
>Do not sync MPD and Live
>Set both MPD and Live to the same tempo
>Launch MPD Note Repeat by holding down a pad
>Press Play in Live manually in time with MPD Note Repeat
>Record when ready
>Quantize if necessary
I know this sounds a little primitive but it actually works quite well in practice and most importantly allows notes, channel pressure and swing to be recorded in real time.

Sorry Fred posted that last message before I seen your response.
And apologies again for being a tad vague. What I meant by the click was the metronome. I was just trying to establish if the Note Repeat triggered notes exactly in time with sound triggered internally in Live. If quantize was on, it would obviously correct any timing issues while recording.
Anyway I've found a workaround which I put in my previous message.
Thanks for your input Fred.

So the problem with the note repeat not working for me was that I was plugging it in to the right hand side of my MBP.
The USB is supposedly not powered properly on that side which messes up anything decent plugged into it. I knew this and that's why my MBOX 2 is plugged in the left.. This leaves me with the right USB. Fantastic, time for a new soundcard.

Same here about the image
I got a mpd32 and remember having bad times about the note repeat.
I think you could also check the firmware of your mpd32 [the latest and best working is the 1.03]
Be careful while upgrading [read very well the procedure]
I guess it's time to replug the controler and try to help you

Re: MPD32 Note Repeat help.
Anyone able to get this working yet?
I've read the manuals for both Ableton Live 8.03 and the MPD and it appears that we have to:
In Live:
MPD32 Input - Track ON - Remote ON
MPD32 Output - Sync ON
On the MPD: External mode
But, even with these settings it's not working. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
THANK YOU!!

Re: MPD32 Note Repeat help.
Would like to know if anyone got around to solving this problem.
I just got an Akai MPD26 and I'm also finding that I am unable to get the MIDI Clock sync working.
I can get the Note Repeat to spit out notes when I slave Ableton Live to the MPD. But the timing of the notes is way off.
I can't seem to set Ableton Live as the master and the MPD as the slave.
Has anyone found out how to get this thing working? Or did WAkai also screw over people who just got the MPD26?

Re: MPD32 Note Repeat help.
In my case I noticed that the note repeat works properly only when ableton live is playing( I mean when the play button is activated), when you push stop button the note repeat stops working.
