UC33e USERS - Setups / Tips & Tricks

UC33e Users - Tips & Tricks for Ableton

So.. How do you have yours set up? What clever little things have you done?

I use mine for DJing (not production) so I currently have fader 1-4 and their respective knobs as audio channels 1-4, and all mirroring eachother..... Channel 1 & 2 are exact replicas of eachother, so that I can mix from any track to any track, and then channel 3 & 4 are for FX loops, acapellas, jingles, additional parts (percussion/melodies/etc) Like this:

C26 = Fade To Grey (Great Effect!)
C18 = Auto Filter (Filter & resonance)
C10 = Gain-Lo (acting as a kill switch)
F01 = Volume (Obviously)

So fader 1 to 4 are all like this, controlling their respective Audio channel... But... Fader 7 controls Delay (master) and Fader 8 controls a Bit Crusher (master) and Fader 9 does a Filter (high to low reversed)... Then C17 I have assigned to BPM so I can mix from the warm-up DJ to my laptop.

Then C25 and C33 are as above, but for the Master Channel.

As for the numercial pad, I've assigned 1, 2, & 3, to select the respective channels, and 4, 5, & 6 to Launch the clip in Channel 1/2/3 and then I use "0" and "8" to scroll up and down clips.

And that's where I'm at.... For now!! :)

Sounds pretty good! I'm in the process of developing a DJ template for the UC-33e incl. mouseless navigation and browser support. I'll be looking to put together a UC-33e template, along with the associated Bomes/Midiyoke files for the PC.

I'll also be putting together a similar template for QWERTY keyboards, for people that are just starting in Live DJ'ing and do not have any controllers yet... Mouselss navigation, Dummy Clips (including quantised volume fades/crossfades and effects) and Broswer support will all be easily controlled with QWERTY keystrokes

I'll be using this little project to fund the purchase of Bomes MT Author edition. I'll need to sell about 10 templates@£10 each to cover the cost of the Bomes license, which means I can then write Bomes MT templates that can be used with the FREE Bomes MT Player edition.

PM me if you're interested.

cool, but what about just letting everyone know how your setup is, well, set up... Like so we can all share the best bits and use whatever we think suits our own thing.

Like who here has a particular effect assigned to a particular knob on the UC33 that they couldn't live without??? If so, what is that??

I have a question to all uc-33e esperienced users., i just got one. Id like to know how can i save a template inside the uc...i mean i mapped the uc to to sylenth 1, id like to save those cc signsments inside the uc so that i can recall it later. i tried after mapping pressing "assign" next i entered the preset number, lets say "07" i tried to recall it but noting happened all my mapping was gone, i know for sure i did something wrong.

It would be great if some more experienced uc33e users could upload a live template or two for djing so they could act as inspiration for others:)

I disagree with almost EVERYONE!!!!

I don't want someone else's template, because I don't want the whole thing to be the same... .Let's not get lazy here, we all know how to MIDI-Map, so just pick up the bits you think will suit you best. :))

Smashing! TBH, I've never even looked at any of the preset racks! Always programmed from scratch... *chuckle*

Hi - If you download the Enigma software from the Website - You can edit and save and upload presets much more easily than editing directly onto the UC-33e

I have every nob and fader on my uc 33 assigned. i also labeled my controller with some tape, so pretty much anyone can move in and try it out. im very happy with my setup.

lets see if i can sum this up without missing anything.

I have a track assigned to just my headphones, so i can edit songs without others hearing it. its not linked.

tracks 1 and 2 are my main tracks. track 3 is used for drum loops, or loops i pull out of other songs.

track 4 is an external instrument in (i usually use my korg)
track 5 is a generic sounding bass.
track 6 is a generic sounding drum rack.

all of the tracks are fed into 3 send channels, which take up the last 3 faders on the uc 33.

track 1 goes to A, track 2 goes to B and the loops and drumrack go to c.

each send channel has an identical set of effects which are assigned to the 3 rows of nobs.

my effects are hp, lp, delay feedback, delay d/w, beat repeat and reverb.
first row is for A, second is b and third is c.

the last 2 columns are my master effects. tempo, swing, bass pitch, and the high mid and low eq.

the number pad is assigned to trigger clips that are selected.

that's what I'm talking about.... Thanks mate!

Looks good enough for me to want to make a couple small tweaks to my setup.

Hi Domkane, my set up is pretty simple... into Live I have 4 tracks, 1-2 for songs, 3 for "voices" where I put some acapellas,phrases,words,etc...to drop over the songs, finally, track 4 is for "loops" and some other noises. Every track has the Lss DjeQ http://www.londonschoolofsound.co.uk/resources.php this plugin works excellent !!! :wink: .
On the UC33e, the 1-4 faders are mapped to the 4 tracks in Live with their respective knobs mapped to the Lss EQ's (hi-mid-lo). Faders 5-8 have no mapping , this way I'm free to assign them on the fly to whatever effect I drop into Live (I like to improvise a lot) and keep Live with less effects/plugins and therefore...less cpu work. Whenever I want to bring specific effect to a track...drop it...map it...use it, have fun and erase it or keep it for later use, it seems like a lot of work to do but it takes only a few seconds and helps you to look "busy" (away from that "checking e-mail figure" :wink: ). Fader 9 is for master Volume, transport controls are mapped to...well...transport controls.

Hello
im also a user of the UC 33 for DJing. as well as this i also have an Ecler Nuo4 in which i only use the center section for midi.
i like to dj with 3 tracks for audio which can be anything from samples to entire songs. on the uc 33 i use the first 2 sliders and the knobs above for track1, slider 3,4 and knobs above track2, sliders 5,6 and knobs above track3. sliders 7,8 and knobs above i use for the return track where i have all my effects.. the master slider i use for the tempo. all the buttons are either launch stop or view the current sample playing for the track.
one thing i wish this controller had was bigger knobs.
it works for me. may or may not work for you

cheers,
