warping dj tracks and export...

Post by in2sky » Sun Jul 27, 2008 9:20 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to batch export warped tracks in Ableton 6 (mac).

Here's what I want to do :

I have a collection of a few 100's of various dj tracks (mp3's and wav's) at different bpm's.

I'd like to import all these tracks in Ableton Live, choose a bpm, therefore all the tracks will have the same bpm.

After that I'd like to re-export all dj tracks separately, for further dj use on CD decks.

Impossible? Possible?

thanks.

Possible, but tedious, and ultimately pointless in my opinion. But here goes:

1. Warp a track -- PROPERLY -- so it starts on a downbeat, and stays solid.
2. Change the tempo to your desired tempo.
3. Drag the warped clip from session view into arrangement view and drop it on an audio track.
4. Set the audio fader for that track to zero. Optionally put whatever plugins on the track you want to compress/master it.
5. Set the loop region to the entire track's length.
6. Export a mixdown as a wav.

Repeat until your hands swell up like rugby balls from carpal tunnel syndrome, or all your tracks are warped.

Honestly I would either play your tracks from Live, or learn to beatmatch. What you're talking about amounts to pretending to beatmatch. The worst of it is, even if you make all your tracks exactly the same tempo, you'll still have to push and pull them to keep them 100% in sync, and you can't do that properly unless you understand beatmatching in the first place. You'll end up looking an idiot when tracks go off sync.

Hi, thanks alot for the reply.

As I thought, doing this manually is going to be time-consuming, but why not.
I'm still trying to think about a way to batch process this for numerous tracks.

Regarding your beatmatching comment: I've been spinning for 15 years.
My concern was more about me deejaying on what's usually available in clubs: Pioneer CDJ. God I hate them. They are not easy to use as the ones you find in clubs don't have a spinning system like record decks.

So my concern is to save as much time as possible and being able to change tracks often, especially on a long set, is good to me.
