Here's a laptop.

New MBP's in September with faster Core 2 Duo's? Who cares. How about a quad core with 8GB of RAM with 960GB of internal HD space. Yikes.

Why would you need the tablet if you could just get a tablet pc?
Also - You KNOW the stickers will be on the shipping model.

because some people want a core 2 quad laptop and a tablet pc in one, if there is one of those on the market I haven't seen it.Kodama wrote:Why would you need the tablet if you could just get a tablet pc?

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
If you were a photographer, you wouldn't have to ask.Kodama wrote:Why would you need the tablet if you could just get a tablet pc?
You get much more control with a Wacom tablet and its associated stylus than with your finger.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

I think it's a nice idea, but quad cores in laptops is pretty unproven and with a 17' screen to drive and fancy Nvidia graphics, I can imagine that heat will be a big issue. Lenovo are also probably the most solid big brand name PC manufacturer. And only weighs 8 pounds, My Dell Inspiron 9100 is 12 lbs and only has a 15.4" screen. Still, I love big screen lappies, hate those little pussy 13" and less screens, get a real man's laptop and hulk around a 17" screen (get some good screen real estate and be able to view lots of tracks and FX).
Also the cost - It ought to be a MBP beater at almost $3k. Most MBPs can be had for 1.8 - 2.3k now and they are proven reliable machines.
And the biggest handicap for this Lenovo is Vista. Even though there might be a few Vista 64 apps and drivers around in the coming monthsm, that is all scarce right now and OSX remains the most stable and best driver supported o/s of current o/s which continue to be supported (XP will soon be a dead duck, r.i.p.
) and without that kind of 64 bit support, there is no point.

From Gizmodo "Except for the fact it runs Vista, it's like the perfect pro photographer's workstation"
Vista still cant catch a break. Actually, i think its good to see all this vista bashing, maybe it'll get microsoft to get their act together and make a decent and contemporary OS.
Still at 17 inches and 8 lbs seems more like a desktop to me. but then again I Never understood the 17in laptop.

And I don't understand those ultra lite, 10" screen laptops, I mean, you might as well use a blackberry, all they're good for is email and web browsing and trying to look cool in Starbucks. IMHO, these devices are as girlie as Prada bags and Jimmy Choos.
17" = lots of viewable audio tracks and plugins. For those who don't want some monstrous tower unit with a 24" LCD but can't get by on the likes of the pathetic 13.3" screen of a Macbook. If you are using this as a DAW and especially in the home environment, 17" makes total sense to me. Gigging DJs might want to go with a 15.4" screen as it's smaller and lighter and as they usually only need a few audio tracks, But I make rock/electronic/alternative music which often runs 30-60 tracks so that screen real estate is so worth it. I wish I had a 17" screen right now, this 15.4" screen I got is getting too small to see much. (plus old age. failing eyes etc)/
As for Vista, MS goofed big time here and they are already moving on to the next o/s within a couple of years (in real terms given MS efficiency this means 5 years). And then you'll just be getting settled in with your 64 bit Vista being able to access all that huge RAM and such and all your drivers will be messed up again. And the fact that virtually no-one is providing working 64 bit Vista drivers (some are now doing beta) means that OSX remains the clear preference for DAW work.

heh heh, love my 13 inch wackbook screen... perfect size for traveling, and those long hangover dumps, light and i can whip it out on the train without having to borrow the person next to mine's kneecaps . have a nice 21in LCD that i plug it into at home. had a 13 in sony vaio before that, small size was the only redeeming factor for that one. cant imagine doing the same with a 17 incher from any brand, probably end up hittin 3 people on the train when i unvail her.leedsquietman wrote:And I don't understand those ultra lite, 10" screen laptops, I mean, you might as well use a blackberry, all they're good for is email and web browsing and trying to look cool in Starbucks. For me seeing where MS was going when Vista was code named "Longhorn" and how it actually turned out- leaving all of the actual features out and just mostly concentrating on implementing the DRM, Windows Defender stuff made me jump over to the mac camp. Glad I did, much more enjoyable computing experience. Im sure lots of others switched over for the same reason, MS knows this, so hopefully with the release of Win 7, ill have a choice between Win or OS X, probably won't though...
