map midi channel changes to PCR pads?

Post by mingusman » Fri Sep 05, 2008 8:01 pm

Hi y'all-

I've been using Live as an instrument host for my, well....live setup for a while. Basically I have a bunch of different VSTs on different midi channels and switch back and forth as I need them.

I have been using the PCR-800 as my midi controller and it has a rotary controller that is used to switch between different midi channels. However, it's started to become problematic for me, since sometimes in the heat of the moment I flip past the channel I need.

I'm wondering whether there is a way to set up the pads on the PCR to change midi channels...I've looked through the manual, and though the pads can be used to make program changes, there isn't a way to get them to change channels (as far as I can tell...I tried using the PCR editor as well and no dice).

I'm convinced though that there has to be a way to do it. I *think* that I may have seen a post on here in the past with a method of doing it on MidiOx or something. Maybe there's a way to do it in MAX? If there is, I'll need a tutorial....I just bought MAX and don't reeeaally know how to use it yet. at all.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

I had the same problem and solved it this way, there was a thread I created few posts down (August 23), done for remote 25 but works on any controller with buttons OR pads...
Hope it helps

quote="soundwave"]Thank you all for the input.
I was after a quick template change....
I could not have solved it without the help of Mick G. from Novation.
Thanx man.
Set up: ( i used 8 channels in LIVE = 8 templates 5audio 1midi 2returns)
First create 8 templates to 8 memories in R25.
Then assign 8 buttons to program change 1-8, all on channel 16 and in R25 override global ch.1 to channel 16 also. In all 8 templates all sliders were assigned to midi # 1 so U allways control volumes in all templates, the rest of templates is assigned to channels 1-8.
Now here is where I had a problem because the prog. changes were changing programs in virtual intruments, NOT in live. To control them in LIVE it is necessary to create a "dummy" midi channel
with input from R25 midi channel 16 and output to R25 midi # 16. Also monitor on THAT midi channel must be turned on.
A push on any of 8 push buttons (prog.chng) and template memory is instantly changed .... :)
Cheers have fun[/quote]
