Faderfox Noob

Post by gurumonkey » Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:42 am

Hey! I just recently purchased two faderfox units (an LV2 and a DJ2) and i have a bunch of questions. I'd love any help or tips on how you guys use these things! Incidentally, i am not sold on the fact that i need a DJ2, so if anyone would be interested in swapping faderfoxes, I'd be interested.

1. i used the template for the LV2 and DJ2 together, but it sure seemed like a heck of a lot of the controls on the DJ2 didn't do what they said they would. for instance, the cross fader wasn't even assigned. it says specifically in the manual that it is. Any thoughts? as far as i can tell, ALL of the buttons at the bottom don't work either.

2. i have an axiom 25 that i would like to run in line with the faderfoxi. if i put it in front of the faderfoxi they don't recieve feedback. if i place it after then the recieve feedback, but don't send squat. Can i use all 3, or do i have to chose faderfox vs. axiom.

3. After trying to run the faderfoxes in line with the axiom, i simply used the axiom's usb (which is fine, though i only trust one of my three ports). But then i realized that tons of the controls on the faderfoxi are mapped to notes, and as i tried to play, i had a lot of dead notes. i tried to adjust things using channels, but i'm not convinced i should even bother. Can i play parts in while the faderfoxi are connected?

4. Could someone catch me up to speed on what parameter feedback works with live 7? i have the newest update, and i thought i read somewhere that live now sent scene launch feedback information, though it didn't work for me.

thanks for anything!

Don't have these units, rather the LC2 & LD2. But:

1. The crossfader on LC2 is not automatically assigned, neither is Loop start/stop on the LD2 for example.

2. When you say "in front of" - do you mean in the midi chain? In that case what is in front, and what is after? You're making some kind of chain? Explain - or rather draw a flow chart.

3. The remote system in Live is dependent on midi port, channel and specific message. If you connect the Faderfoxes to your Axiom (using one in and one out) you can't also use the Axiom as a control surface of those ports. The messages will collide. Especially if you have that Axiom port set to Track as well. Then all midi note numbers will play as just that. I think you should get a dedicated midi port/interface for you Faderfoxes since the occupy so many controller messages.

4. Feedback for clip play and loop is sent with Live 7. Don't know if your Faderfoxes supports that. I think the LX2 might. Parameter feedback and midi mapping in general is explained in the manual.

i actually did have the axiom connected seperately. originally, i was using the midi ports on my fast track pro to connect everything, the midi went
axiom--->LV2----->------DJ2------->Fast track midi In.

i later tried the axiom's usb interface but left the LV2 and DJ2 connected to the fast track pro. perhaps i need to mess with the track control? should that only be on for the keyboard and not the faderfoxes?

back to the faderfox templete, however. I did notice in the midi assign box that the crossfader had no assignment. for whatever reason. but in the manual AND in the midi assign box they mention all of the bottom buttons as being used to turn on and off effects. the assignments seemed to be decimals (.2) and such. when i clicked on one of these faderfox buttons to assign it to a radio button in live, it seemed to indicate that it was a fraction (1/42) or something. Is this because they template was made in live 6?

Well then you ARE playing the Axiom on the same in port as you assigned the Faderfoxes.

Track in midi prefs is supposed to be on for the midi ports that have controllers you wanna play. So not for the port for the Faderfoxes.

Are you using the templates from Mathias? You don't need to with Live 7, you know? 1/42 means midi channel 1 and CC 42. Not a fraction.

Hello,

Just recently purchased a brand new faderfox but at the moment I am having some major problems setting it up. Apparently after setting it up under the preferences tab in Live, the device is getting midi input however (say I would like to slide the crossfader on the faderfox), I'm not getting any visual input of the Live crossfader moving as well. If it is already mapped by default why is it not repsonding? Do I need to set this up myself?....(or maybe I'm not understanding the concept of "native support").

I am using Live 7.0.3, one midi usb port and the faderfox. Nothing complicated but it has been driving me absolutely insane. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
