Free Operator?

Post by superiorinferior » Thu Sep 11, 2008 11:02 am

I just read that people who upgrade to Live 7 will get a free copy of Operator and the new Live packs -- does this apply to us who already have Live 7?

Sorry if this was covered elsewhere.

And what about those who already belong operator with Live 6 if we upgrade to live 7 ? I've been reluctant to do it because I work with an 'ageing ' alubook 1 ghz but may be tempted to do it.

"Buy or upgrade to Ableton Live 7 between September 1, 2008 and October 30, 2008 and get Operator for free."

This offer is only valid during this time-frame.

http://www.ableton.com/free-operator

If you already own Operator your existing license is already valid for all versions of Live.

I don't understand why Ableton would, in essence, penalize already-faithful customers who already have paid to upgrade (I have twice, already) by giving it away to newcomers?

If I am not mistaken, it was about this time last year that I upgraded to Live 6 (just before 7 came out) and I ended up having to "upgrade" only a couple months again when 7 was finally released.

So are you trying to get as many people under the Live 7 umbrella before you drop the bomb about a pending release (and costly) upgrade to Live 8??

Don't get me wrong, I love Live and am a big promoter of it. It's just all these upgrades and "deals" all the time -- why are the people who are your bread and butter (the faithful customers who mostly upgrade without the need of special promotions) left out of your goodies?

I think it's hard to make assumptions about what they will do in future.

perhaps they will give Operator away free to everyone after that time frame ends.

Perhaps they will give existing operator owners a magic cuddle at that same time
perhaps perhaps perhaps. it's all guessing and moaning.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions from the idea that 'new customers get it free' - especially not the conclusion that 'old customers will not get it free'

I also have to admit that i don't exactly understand the part about penalizing customers.
As bugs&problems is not exactly the right area for this topic i suggest contacting [email protected] directly if there are still open questions regarding our special offers.
They'll be happy to help you with all sales related questions.

Cheers,

You bought it when you did and you decided it was worth the money.
Same with computers: When you wait prices drop if you want it straight away you pay more. Operator has been out for ages if Ableton want to do a promotion where they give it away they can.

ableton customer care are nice. they offered me live at the capped price even though it was after the deadline. trouble was, they took so long to respond i'd already bitten the bullet at the higher price by the time the offer came through. still, it was nice of them to offer.

Ableton should reward their loyal customers as well as their new ones with a free copy of Operator. It would be a nice gesture and and would not cost them anything to do..
If it were given with live 7 it would encourage Live 6 users to upgrade.
