Where to buy a controller in London?

Post by Meef Chaloin » Fri Sep 19, 2008 10:54 am

After a few days of fuckery with GAK ive decided just to go somewhere and buy an MPD32 in person and, as I live in Oxford and there's no decent shops around, i was thinking London.

Where is there though? Turnkey used to be perfect (easy to get to) but isn't that closed now? Ive been to one of the Digital Village shops and it was more like an office with a few sets of monitors in it.

Is there anywhere to buy from in person?!

Doesnt need to be London, High Wycombe is a possibility

Pro Audio shops are dead in London!

I was on the hunt for some bits t'other day and a trawl down denmark stree and surrounsing areas....nothing.

Just guitars nowadays.

Sad but true. the internertz wins.

What were the problems with GAK? If you like I can walk up there and check for you, I live about 2 minutes away.

well its not their fault really, when I bought it online i thought there would be an option for delivery address (being seperate to billing address) and got to the end of the process & thought, shit, im not going to be at home. So it got delivered to an empty house, i spend £5 on the phone trying to get through & they say they can't deliver to another address and because I cant make it to the depot (also office hours) i would never be able to receive it. They said all they could do was refund me so I just thought, after ringing them & the couriers all day, that i'll do that & buy it in person somewhere, have it for the weekend.

Now it seems there's not an MPD32 in the whole of London, DV are 'waiting for them'

Maybe Thomann? But I doubt you can get it today of course.

There used to be that massive pro audio basement in Virgin on Oxford street...now its an emopty basement underneath Zavvi.

I dunno whats happened to all the pro audio. I guess it just doesnt pay to sell it from a shop anymore.

Wanted to give you link to Musik Schmidt, since i tried one there last week but all sold out.
I ordered mine last week per mail order, came , 2 days back but meanwhile bought Hambones LX2 so dont know if I will keep MPD32 or Ebay it. Since I already have LV2, LX may work better for me (triggering video clips).
MPD32 is tempting to keep since the pads are better then MPC1000 or MPK49, not to mention padKontrol or TF. However I have too much gear that is not used. If you interested keep in touch- must first see how LX2 works for me then decide the fate of MPD32, good to hear they out of stock so it wont be difficult to resale it.

Pro Audio shops go bust because the spotty nerds who work for them think all the equipment is there just for them to play around on and spend all day working on their own projects.

Serving customers is the last thing on their minds in my experience

That and the internet.
