Used MPD 24 for $100? Should I go for it?

Post by Punky921 » Thu Oct 09, 2008 3:02 pm

Hey guys,

I've got a Trigger Finger right now, and it's pretty decent, but I found a used MPD24 for $100. Think I should go for that, or just save up for an MPD32? I'm getting into beat production and I currently use my TF for playing drum beats over mixes and in production.

Also, how are the pads on the MPD-24 and MPD-32? I really dislike the pads on my MPK49.

Justin

if you're talking american dollars that's pretty cheap.
But in a few weeks these guys http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=M4GALo8-n ... F9&index=0 are making a version for the MPD32 so i reckon it could be worth saving up

I considered the mpd 32 But akai haven't ironed all the bugs. You have to reprogram global settings every time you start up. I went for the padkontrol. But for a hundred bucks why the heck not.

Ask your self two question; One Do I really need it and two am I going to buy the next best thing as soon as it comes out.

We all have to learn to wait and get want we want not what will get us by, learn from my mistakes and just save your money for what you need.

That's a good price. I really liked my MPD24, but then I got the pad kontrol and a uc33e and didn't use it anymore. One cool thing about the MPD24 is aftertouch pressure control. You can assign a cc to aftertouch pressure control in a synth and the harder or softer you hold down a pad, you can control a synth cc like filter cutoff or volume or wahtever. Sadly Live hasn't made it possible to assign aftertouch pressure as a controller. Hopefully the next version will have it. One other note about the MPD24 is that it doesn't have a built in pitch bend controller the way most controllers do. Though, there are midi utility apps that can convert cc to pitchbend.

I've got a pitchbend control in my MPK49 and I never use it, so I doubt I'd miss it that much.

just get it. you can easily sell it for $100 if you don't like it.

I use my mpc1k like an mpd fairly often, note repeat and aftertouch are great for programming drums.

SuperBassMexican - I'd bet the global options thing is a bad unit or user error, that's too ridiculous to be true.
