r u making your own sounds or using presets?

Drum n bass involves a lot of sampling, and layering. If your looking for a good synth to get raw material from, I can suggest Rapture....

Which, I always thought was smoother sounding than Massive.... Rapture is very cool and awesome sounding tech.

But....

For d n b, proper... you will most likely need to do a lot of sampling n layering no matter what synth you start with....

btw... Rapture can make a fat ass sampler as well....

Rapture is 2 things, wavetable synth ( first n foremost ) then sampler...

Edit--

I'd also suggest Reason... come to think of it... I think Reason would make good fun for d n b...
too many lasers...

Reason is not for everybody. I don't use it myself....

But...

hundreds of pro tracks have been made with it, and I've heard some combinator patches that are mind-blowing.

It is not for everybody. BuT!

There are lots of serious and famous producers using it.
too many lasers...

I use reason for DnB/Metal/rock/jazz/country/my kid goofing off/anything really.... having great success rewiring into ableton.

I dont use reason for "reason" I use its "instruments" to play midi data from ableton... I believe that is essential to be able to use reason to its fullest potential.

And then record those sounds and then comense to play... tweaking whatever in ableton.

Reason is only as "small sounding" as the "user" running it... IMHO.
I have this huge debate going on with another friend via same topic.

I thought reason sounded cheesy as hell until I learned how to manipulate all of the synths... any synth... synth elements are to making anything sound great... if you cant tweak filters and LFO...etc..etc...then no matter what you use will be useless....

Find the keys unlock the door....
Dont let generic preset sounds take you down.
