Ableton crashes after reording a track

last night i was recording a vocalist in my studio.

After few takes, it happened 3 times that Live crashed after recording a track... during the recording process all went smooth but as soon as i pushed the stop button because the singer was done, the program crashed and the take went lost...

i'm recording on an external hard drive, that is connected to my macbook pro through an express card adapter from manhattan... could it be this the problem? it never happened before...
