Huge problem!

Post by guitarguruguy35 » Tue Oct 28, 2008 3:55 pm

If you are windows Xp savy here is one hell of a problem

Friend installed ableton 7 and set the plug in folder to scan
PROGRAM FILES FOLDER!
So now it scans ALL .dll files for whole system and of course crashes.
Uninstall doesn't work cause ableton is still scanning Program files folder upon reinstall!

I am not XP savy so I dont know what ableton has imbedded so it continues to scan the same folder.
Obviously it is not fully uninstalling or else it would not know what folder to scan.

I have no idea what to do to help.
I figured this would be the place to find the answer.
Up for a challange?

Hi guitarguruguy35,

you only chance is to delete Lives preferences file:
C:\Documents and Settings\"Your Username"\Application Data\Ableton\Live 7.X\Preferences\Preferences.cfg

Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default.
Here is how to make it visible:
1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."

After trashing it Live should start normal again!

Best,
dfi
