The local guitar center in minneapolis has an Akai MPC4000 with a MPD16 right next to it. I don't think they feel the same at all when you are hitting them for an extended time.

I dumped my MPD16 after a few months of trying to get consistant results, but I really only needed it for playing gigs ...

Image hmm, this is about a year old. There's been a few gear (nord modular out for a new G2 engine / added BCR2000, etc) changes and it's been switched to an "L" layout. Got to take a new pic.

I've been jammin' it this way since day one. You have way more than just 64 pads (4 banks of 16) since you can just increment the midi channel for the banks on the fly on the mpc giving you a whopping 1024 custom pads assigned to specific clips.

I merge the midi signal with the behringer BCR2000 ...

Surgeon was jammin' one the other week when I saw him play. He looked to be using it as a midi controller for the program rather than a specific fx unit.

It depends on how your soundcard allows realtime processing if you can feed through it and back in. You just need to watch out for a feedback ...

I researched this datahand device about 3 years ago for my boss since I was doing data entry. One of the coolest features was that there's a thumbswitch that turns the index finger key into a mouse instantly. Really cool product, but yeah the price is outrageous.

Those of you looking for machinedrum samples should know that most of the sounds it creates aren't that amazing on their own. It's how they sound in the grooves that are being created when each of them has so many tweaks being made on each step for each of the tracks.
I've sampled mine to put into ...

What, like this?

You just need to place your cursor over the horizontal line dividing the clip properties and the session/arrange window and pull it upward as much as you want.

on the audio track you want to "grab" the audio to and record it, use the AUDIO FROM selection. Pick the midi track which will be shown and then select the arm button at the bottom. You'll see the meters jump up to match the midi track and you can then record into the cells above.

Thanks for posting the manual. I'd been trying to grab it off their site for a long time since I'm a owner manual junkie. Good to do the research on things.

Now, if you decide to sell one of the Notrons...drop me a line. :-)

The original UC-33 does NOT have a "bypass" mode. So if you want to move the knobs somewhere to match where the screen settings are, you can not "shut off" the data transmission momentarily to make the switch and then activate it again.

The UC-33E has added this function.

I chatted with Claude Young when he was in Minneapolis a few months back and asked him why he didn't have the Grex with him (since his comments and usual musical excitement were posted on the website). He commented on how it had broken and the knobs weren't built well. He didn't think it would see ...

Leave a single note being triggered and "mold" the bassline by simply altering its parameters with automation. Of course the Oscillator tuning will yield your first obvious changes, but work with all the parameters to create a groove that you wouldn't get from just playing a melody on the keyboard.

Get it all of you..it's cheap and powerful.
