Installing in "Program Files" instead of "ProgramData"

Live installs in ProgramData by default, but I would prefer to have it inside Program Files like all other software. I read in some old posts that it installs in ProgramData to make automatic updates work better (though other programs, like Firefox, work just fine that way, even without the backgrou...

WASAPI audio drivers support

Here it says WASAPI drivers are not supported because "the drivers are rarely used".

I think especially people using laptops would like to have those as an option, since Asio4all is not multiclient.

I tried WASAPI in Reaper and it worked fine.

Re: ASIO multiple audio softwares at the same time (multiclient)

I saw some native Realtek ASIO drivers mentioned here:

I have no idea if it works and/or how it works.

Re: Some computer performance questions: Mac OS versus Windows

I also heard there are differences between ASIO and Coreaudio regarding latency. That is, for example, 64 samples with ASIO is not the same as 64 samples with Coreaudio (same audiocard). The latter supposedly has a longer overall latency. If anyone has both Windows and Mac OS at their disposal, this...

Re: mp3 or wav

WAV doesn't make sense for distribution. If you want to offer lossless, use something like FLAC. Also, you should at least learn the basics of these formats before doing anything. I suggest hydrogenaudio.org as one of the places with relevant information. Learning the basics = good point. However, ...

Re: Asio

Exactly. Asio4all takes exclusive control of the audio device.
So if you want ASIO with the sound playing in other programs, you need a different driver/soundcard.

There's also WASAPI, but Ableton doesn't support it. Maybe FLS does, I don't know.

Re: Recording Shoot-out: Ableton proved inferior??

You asked for it. There is difference asking for help "cant get stereo signal in" or "why my stereo input turns mono" to "Recording Shoot out Ableton proved inferior?" This. OP, probably you messed up somewhere. Or you discovered a bug in your audio drivers or in Live.. Either way, you should have ...

Re: Struggling to get gapless Audio playback on a mix CD...

Any decent media player will play gaplessly, Foobar, Winamp..

If you hear gaps when playing with Foobar it means the files themselves aren't gapless (maybe burning or ripping the CD wasn't done properly).

Re: ASIO Rendering Quality?

Directx/ASIO etc. have no effect on rendering quality. Is your render sample rate the same as the one you're using real time? To make sure it's not an issue with rendering you can try opening the rendered file in Live. And I would advise against using players like WMP (or iTunes). They are primarily...

Re: Katy Perry Mixer - "Ableton sounded terrible" (SoundonSound)

Not to sound confrontational, but to people saying there is an audible difference: if you haven't actually performed a blind ABX test your opinion isn't worth much. There are many people who swear their expensive hi-fi cables sound better/different, yet when they are challenged to spot the differenc...

Re: Mac is no longer for todays DAW. It's obviously old fasioned

i was going to write a long winded reason why people dont switch but here is the number one reason. money. Actually for me the two main reasons are customizability and the amount of software. My custom built Windows PC is essentially silent, while still being pretty powerful. Can't have that with e...

Re: Tunecore alternative??

Why even bother with these distributors? Are you really selling on that many stores that you can't upload to each personally? Other than Bandcamp and perhaps iTunes/Amazon (I don't like these two, but that's me) I don't see why you'd need to sell elsewhere. You can add Indietorrent (since they only ...

Re: Do I need more than 4GB RAM?

8GB of RAM (2x4GB) is around 30 € right now. There's no reason to buy anything less than that. In fact if 4 sticks don't bother you, might as well get 16GB. (2x8GB would be better, but 8GB sticks are still pretty expensive right now.)

Re: Good free CD ripper for XP?

I use Exact Audio Copy . Has served me well for many years... +1 With EAC you can make 100% perfect copies, especially if you use it with AccurateRip. (If you get AccurateRip matches it means your rip was exactly the same as the rip of someone else, which is about as good as it gets.) If you're not...
