I'm trying to make some alternative r'n'b, but with a vintagy feel, not unlike: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHzkICG47LU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx0xzO73Amo
but I also dig more trip-hoppier sounds like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXFHf8xZ1CA

Re: session or arrangement view
As I see it, it is also two different approaches to recording/playing/"writing" music.
Sessionview is - as mentioned - good for improvisation, experimentation with loops or short sequences etc.
I can imagine this is very good for especially stuff like house music, that has alot of static elements in ...

Deliberate lo-fi sound
This is probably gonna sound silly, or even insane to some of you... but I want my music to have a more lo-fi feel, some subtle distortion and crispy vintage-like recordings. This goes especially for the vocals and the guitar. I'm using saturator and overdrive, but it tends to get more purely noisy ...

Microphone "skipping," when recording(?)
Hi there
To make a long story short, I'm currently recording on a Tascam US-122 MK II with a Supreme CU-1 Condensator Microphone, and when I record into Ableton, there's delay of about a second, and when it records, it sort of "skips" every second, leaving tiny holes with no audible sound.

Re: Composing non-electronic music in Live
I'm probably quite unlike other people here, but I only use the arrangement view, as I'm more a musician and songwriter than a producer. I simply just use Ableton to "pile-up" all of the different sounds, I want to use in a single song. Ableton is great because of it's accesability (if you ask me ...

Re: Recording issues!!
I recommend that you return the interface if possible and use the money to purchase something else.
The reason I say that is because I've used a Tascam US-122, US-144, and US-122 mkii. I was never able to get any of them to operate in an acceptable manner on either Vista or Windows 7. Not to ...

Re: Recording issues!!
do you have windows 7?
I have a friend with the same tascam product and he has to unplug and plug back in the usb cord and then the noise goes away for a some time (but eventually comes back)
It seems it's a problem with tascam's windows 7 drivers, this is the only workaround I know of.

Recording issues!!
Hi there
I've recently bought a Tascam US-122 mkII USB audio/MIDI interface and a Supreme CU-1 microphone in order to do some recording. I've setup everything up including having installed drivers, set up the interface as the preference for in- and outputs in Ableton. But when I try to record with ...

Percussion sounds and samples
Hi guys
I'm looking for some good all-around percussion sample packs or the like for electronic music.
Any suggestions?

Re: Goddamnit.... can't seem to find a looped sample's tempo!
chances are it's the loop itself that that's a bit off and thats why it drifts.
post a link to the file.
You're right. That's most likely the case.

Goddamnit.... can't seem to find a looped sample's tempo!
Hi guys
I have this looped sample and I want to adjust the song's tempo, so that the sample start hits every beat (if this makes any sense)
I've tried warping and tapping, plus adjusting the tempo little by little, but it always seems to fall out of tempo.
Is there any technique - other than those ...

You're most right, sir. Good points there.
Thanks for the advice everyone. It's certainly been fruitful
I guess the bottomline here is "practice makes perfect"
I'll keep on going!

Re: Sound design - how do you go about it?
All right, all of this makes sense.
But you asked me to be more specific. Okay... Say I wanted to make dreamy, yet quite analog-sounding leads, and noisy, crunchy pads in the style of bands like SALEM (try listening to songs like "Asia" "Frost" or "King Night" to see what I mean.
