Re: Playing live on a big system: Worried about my mixes

Thank for for the responses! What specific frequencies do you think will be the biggest problems? The low-end? The super low end?

Also for those advocating cutting off the very bottom frequencies: Where should the cutoff point be? 30hz? 40hz? And Is one EQ 8 good enough to cut these frequencies or ...

Playing live on a big system: Worried about my mixes

I posted something similar to this in the gearslutz forum but did not get the responses I was hoping for. I've also tried searching but, again, did not find anything that went into great detail.

Basically I am at a point in my music career where I feel that I am finally ready to start playing out ...

Where the fuck is my sample? Please help

Honestly ableton is really starting to piss me off. I asked a simple question the other day about how to make sure ALL of my shit saves and someone told me the collect all and save feature would make sure all of my samples saved to the project folder.

Well lets just say that yesterday I lost a few ...

Saving your als files WITH all of your samples?

So i've been putting together 7 tracks that I want to finalize and make into an album. The problem is that many of them are saved into different project files.

I want to start an entirely new project file and move these 7 tracks that one specific file. The purpose of this is also to back it up onto ...

EQing out frequencies VS filtering them?

I have been wondering this for a while now and have not stumbled upon a straight answer. When I am mixing what is the different between EQing out frequencies or filtering them out?

If I use a high pass filter at 150 hz for a snare drum, should I also cut out everything below 150 on the EQ?

What ...

Re: Massive anxiety attacks on starting to use Ableton, help!

As someone who has been using Ableton for less than a year I can certainly understand where you are coming from. It really is overwhelming to think of all of the possibilities, technical issues, etc when it comes to learning a complex software like Ableton.

The thing is, there is really no point ...

Re: Tips for a clean bass sound? Best VSTs/Synths for bass?

Thanks for the responses guys.

Regarding my example not matching my description, I guess what I meant by "clean" is not the actual bass sound itself but rather how clean and smooth it fits in with the mix. I don't hear any mud in the lower frequencies of that example. It sounds nice and smooth That ...

Tips for a clean bass sound? Best VSTs/Synths for bass?

I've been finding myself getting frustrated trying to get a super clean and deep bass sound. It's especially annoying when I have an awesome sounding kick drum with a nice fat sound that gets muddled in with the bass. I am not asking for anyone to repeat basic info. I know about basic sidechaining ...

Re: Is all of the APC 40 hate justified or just gear-head rants?

Wow, didn't expect so many replies. Thank you everyone who took the time to reply, i'm really looking forward to having a controller to use with live!

I am definitely going to go with the APC. Not having any controller right now, it's hard for me to tell exactly what I want/need. I think the APC ...

Is all of the APC 40 hate justified or just gear-head rants?

So i'm literally on the verge of purchasing an APC 40 (as in I would have ordered it tonight if the checks I deposited today cleared), and I am really happy even thinking about having a hands-on controller. Right now it's just me and my laptop, which can get a bit stale and boring after a while.

I ...

Re: Will I survive just fine with Ableton Suite?

As a fairly new Live Suite user and someone who just their first third party plugin (Camel Audio Alchemy VST), I would say that the answer to your question depends on what your intended goals are.

While Ableton Suite does feature powerful instruments such as Analog and Operator, I find that it ...

Re: How can I save settings from a third party Plug-in?

OSX 10.6

Do you have to do anything special or do you presets save automatically? I figured out how to save settings from Alchemy itself, so at least I can recall them again, but it would be nice if Ableton would remember and I didn't have to write down which settings goes to which tracks.

Re: How can I save settings from a third party Plug-in?

Anyone have a solution, I tried grouping everything in a instrument rack and saving that setting but when I closed out of ableton and re-opened it still wouldn't load the proper string setting in Alchemy. I'm at a loss

How can I save settings from a third party Plug-in?

In this case i'm using Camel Audio Alchemy in Ableton Live. Now, say I create a new midi track, open up Alchemy and choose some strings I like. I then type in some midi notes and voila I have a midi clip playing the alchemy strings. But when I close out of Ableton, re-open it, and play the same ...
