Re: ducking effect = phase cancellation?

Hi,

Have you considered phase cancellation? This occurs when two sounds are playing in an overlapping frequency range – a negative phase in one channel can cancel the positive phase in the other channel to produce reduced/zero amplitude for that frequency band. You could get around it by cutting ...

Turn up your amplifier volume to compensate.
Still hear the ducking?

My first guess was the same as Guy Smiley's first guess.
But I'd trust my ears more than that fader animation.

Thanks for your reply. Where in PDX are you? I'm in NE. And thank you for your advice.

is there a compressor anywhere in this signal chain - either hardware or software ?

oh no...absolutely not. I am very aware of what a compressor can do to sound. That is also why I used the concept of ducking to describe what the problem sounds like.

Am I just hearing the limitations of using a ...

So, you are narrowing it down to the computer and sound card. But, I don't understand your reason. ??

my problem seems to be not cracks and pops under 10ms ,
but at say 8ms

when i hit the keys on my midi controller and "record" midi notes in the midi editor , the timing seems to be off, sort of a delay I get. Is that the latency. I want to record my midi performance "live" no quantization at all ...

Latency - Are these normal read outs?

I was watching a LIVE tutorial and
it showed:

256 samples

output latency 5.00 ms or so
input latency 5.00 ms or so.

On my mac using core audio

I have 256 samples

output latency is 7.28 ms
input latency is 7.23 ms

Is that normal for my setup

Also I have a sample rate of 44100

I'm still ...

cool...thank you. That is what I am doing, now. But is there a prefered directory to keep them?

If not I'll just add them to where LIVE has the rest of its preset samples for Impulse.
users/applicationsupport/ableton/library

:) thanks
