You mean the volume faders on the channels? If you hold shift and select all four channels and then just move the fader on one all of the selected channels will move with it...

It's because of how filters work. You've heard of a 24db and 12db filters (low pass, or high pass), what they mean is that the volume of the frequencies bellow the threshold are reduced by 24db (or 12db) per octave. The reason operator is set up that way is because it is meant to be an FM synth and those tend to be designed to use ratios of the pitch. So if course is set to 1 and you hit a c3 on your keyboard a c3 will come out the end, if it is set to 2 the note that comes out will be up an octave, so in this ...

Inside Battery click file, options... One of the options is keyrange offset which you could change to c2, then every time you load battery the first pad will be on c2 by default, however if you then load one of the battery kits they will load their default midi note possition, which start at c1 ...

If your soundcard has more than one input it might be the track isn't set to the right input. Make the input/output section of your audio channel visible by clicking the little circle which says I.O on it (in the bottom right corner of ableton).
