well, i think i may have figured it out. i removed this line from the plist file:
<string>MaxMSP Runtime 5.1.9 (build 48561), Copyright 2010 Cycling '74</string>
it seems to have corrected the problem where M4L is concerned, and my standalone still seems to be functioning as intended. does this ...

Re: problem opening max for live patches for edit
OK, that sounds promising (and, for me, preferable to keeping the standalone if possible, rather than just running a patch with Max), but can you be more specific about how I need to edit the plist file? I'm looking at it, but nothing jumps out as being an obvious solution (not much a coder here ...

Re: problem opening max for live patches for edit
thank you Peter, this makes sense, and is the method that i will employ.
just out of curiosity though - i'm confused as to why the standalone app takes control of max runtime, regardless of max's presence. for example, even if i have a M4L patch open for edit in max/msp, and then open the ...

Hey everybody -
I created a small stand-alone application with Max that runs during my Ableton sessions and feeds global information to it (so that I don't have to adjust this in EVERY session whenever I make a global change). I've run into a problem though - whenever I have this application open ...

Re: easily switch MIDI inputs?
That's actually very helpful - it's such an obvious solution, but I hadn't thought of it before. Argh!
This would probably work the best as my keyboard is never attached to more than one unit at a time, and this way I could attach it anywhere I wanted without having to do anything. Thanks for the ...

easily switch MIDI inputs?
Hey everybody -
I've got a ton of different sessions where multiple MIDI tracks are specified to receive input from my keyboard (connected to a USB MIDI device). I want to know if there is any way to easily globally change which device the keyboard is connected to without having to go into the ...

midi controller advice?
Hey everybody -
I am looking for a MIDI controller (preferably with USB, but not required) with some knobs and/or faders, buttons, as well as foot pedal inputs. I currently have a UC33, which I like - but it's actually more faders and knobs than I need, and it doesn't have any foot pedal inserts. I ...

Native Instruments Piano Samplers anybody?
Hey everybody -
I'm looking for some new piano samplers to incorporate into my live set. The ones provided by Ableton can do the trick, but I'm not the biggest fan of their overall sound. I'm looking into getting one or two of the piano samplers NI offers for their Kontakt player... BUT, they ...

running sibelius midi into live via iac bus?
Hey all -
I know this is possible, as I've done it before, but cannot seem to reproduce my steps.
I have Sibelius 6, and the MIDI is currently set up to go through my IAC bus.
So I go into Ableton, and when I play the file from Sibelius, I can see the midi track in indicator light up. However, on ...

alias ableton files are greyed out in the open/save dialog
Hi all -
I'm running Live 8.1.3 on Mac OS X, 10.6.3.
I'm trying to create sets folders of just Ableton alias files so that I can easily access them from the stage, get them open as quickly as possible.
However, when I try to use Live's open dialog box, these alias files are greyed out. The only way ...

Hi everyone -
I'm trying to figure out the best way to accomplish what I need, so any advice would be wonderful.

Re: significant latency after CPU spike or audio "hiccup"
unfortunately, restarting is the only solution that i have found. i've even tried just reopening the session, but that does not work. restarting is the only thing that seems to rid the delay. it's really frustrating!

significant latency after CPU spike or audio "hiccup"
Hi everybody -
I've done several searches on this, but I have yet to find a discussion that deals with the problem I'm having.
I'm using Live 8.1.3 with an Edirol FA-101 connected via firewire. The problem I am having is that, frequently, something happens in Live (usually a random CPU spike) which ...
