Re: How does Live handle multi-output VSTi's

You're on the right track using External Instruments!

Not in front of my computer at the moment, but by memory.....

1.) Drop an instance of your multi-out VST into the session view in Ableton.

2.) Load instruments into channel 1 and 2 (and so on) of the multi-out VST.

3.) Make sure that each ...

Forum posts are like television - you can choose to turn the channel. That also goes for ironic posts like this.

This forum does have it's reputation of contentiousness, but I know of many other discussion groups far, far worse than this one.

If you don't like what a person posts, you can choose ...

Attitude? I've given you my 6 update$ $ince v1, spent countless hours learning the program, turning others on to it, and you have a problem with my attitude? pfft.

So much for ableton support I say. But, I don't have a problem ...

to the OP

Why you're bitching about "people shouldn't be bitching" is beyond me.

Abes doesn't needing anything from me other than my money(positive affirmation) and my bitching(my influence).

Just about everything you like about Live has come from bitching.

A cleaner way would also to use the EXTERNAL Instrument.

Create an instance of Kontakt 3, then create another midi track.

On the new midi track add an External instrument.

On the external instrument, route 'midi to' -> Kontakt 3
and 'audio from' St.2 (or St.3, or whatever output you set your ...

True enough! Hopefully they'll find a niche.

In the same way some like amp sim simulations, (UAD, amplitube, podfarm) some will enjoy this as well.

Sure, you can ALWAYS get a similar results using the supplied materials, but some prefer the emulations that others try so painfully to produce.

I'm not a fan-boy of this software, but just ...

Also: WinXP *home* now supports the 3gb switch.

I'm currently using it here, and it helps to have the extra ram for Large samples libraries!

good luck!

I hope the person that wrote that is the first to experience their classy ass-shafting.

Just thought of Toby, the HR dude from the Office.

I know where you're comin from, but I'm of the mind that a *show* should have some vestige of 'showmanship'.

Can you imagine if opera or musicals or movies didn't bother with costumes?

Yeah, the only work around for this is to either bounce it to audio, then remove the VST and disable the midi (I remove the vst to reclaim the RAM).

Or conversely, you can also use a separate instance of the vst for each instrument, which won't get expensive on CPU (cuz now you can freeze) but ...

Although you can freeze an external instrument that is wired via REWIRE in the way mentioned above, you cannot freeze a multi-out VST if midi/external instruments are routed to it.

Same thing if you are using the sidechain feature in the compressor. Once you've routed audio/midi from one track to ...

It actually does this in Windows too.

You have to close out the program in order to REALLY free up anything that isn't loaded by third party VSTi.
