Hi Chapelier,

In fader mode, the Launchpad Pro pads only respond to velocity. You hit a pad to determine 'where' you want to set the fader and the velocity with which you hit it determines how fast it gets there.

It sounds as though your Impulse isn't connecting with the computer.

Try it on each of your USB ports and also with an alternative USB cable.

If you don't want to use the Ableton template built into the SL, it is possible to disable this behavior.

In your Ableton > Preferences > MIDI Sync tab. You just need to remove the SL as a control surface in here and leave the MIDI ports enabled in the on/off buttons below.

Ableton and the Impulse work in a different way to other DAWs and as previously suggested, Automap doesn't play a part in this connection. Automap will only be used to control your third party plugins.

The rest of the Ableton parameters are controlled through the Impulse's own MIDI port ...

Ableton's Native devices, racks and mixer controls cannot be controlled by Automap as such. With a standard Novation MIDI controller they will map natively. The UltraNova only has Synth and Automap mode and so this isn't possible. This means that you won't be able to use the Automap mixer ...

Hi cfboyd,

In your Ableton MIDI Sync prefs can you turn off the LPD8 inputs and outputs on track, sync and remote.

Instead can you please turn the Launchpad Input (4- Launchpad) and Launchpad Output (4- Launchpad) Track and Remote options on.

The window transparency option is no longer available in Automap 4, instead the alerts inform you of updates etc...

With the SL Mk II you can create a custom mapping however it will again require the MIDI learn function and a user map.

You're absolutely right, to use the faders to control the mixer you need to be in mixer mode on your Impulse. In order to control plugins using the faders you will have to use the MIDI learn function as you suggested.
