I've been thinking about these things a bit more and I'm starting to come round to the same view. Dominant denotes the 5th degree of the scale no matter what scale. So myxolydian can't replace the term dominant because mysxolydian itself as a dominant which happens to be a minor ...

Re: What's the proper name for this chord?
No your right it's no better in that case, I was just trying to that it's no worse. History has blessed us with the notion of a Dominant 7th but if we were making all this stuff up from scratch again then Myxolidian 7th would do as well.

Re: What's the proper name for this chord?
OK point taken.
But I still think the idea is neat, even if it's not sufficient to describe non tonal harmony.
Especially for 11th and 13th chords.
In the example of dom7b9#11 the word Dominant is used in the same way as I would use the word Myxolidian so to me this would me a Myx7b9#11. The ...

Re: What's the proper name for this chord?
Just been thinking about this over a pipe and a pint of beer.
I think it would be a good idea if complex chords were named after their natural modes.
So instead if having ridiculously complex names for the 7 different flavours of 13th chords you could just have a Lydian 13th or a Dorian 13th, etc ...

Re: Live looping
Well first off I'd recommend you upgrade to Live 8 which has a looper built in. There's ways to live loop in previous versions, but 8 makes it MUCH easier.

FCB1010 with Firewire 410
Hey,
So I've got me a FCB1010 and am trying to get it to work. I've got it connected through my Firewire 410 (MIDI Out from the FCB to MIDI In on the 410) and have, I think, set up the correct MIDI Preferences in Live. So far, however, Live only recognizes the expression pedals. When I'm in MIDI ...

Remote SL problems Live 8
Ever since I upgraded I'm getting the Ableton is OFFLINE message with my Remote SL. I've checked my MIDI preferences, deleted and then reinstalled the icon in Audio MIDI Setup, but still nothing. Anyone else have this problem? Any advice on what to do to get it to work?
Much appreciated

I too admire Ché for being willing to die for his beliefs, but that's the only reason I admire him. He was definitely NOT cool—rather, he was an unrepentant Stalin-worshipping, mass-murdering thug who had no compunction against killing those who he deemed in the way of his attempt to realize some ...

FCB1010 vs FC-300
I know there are a lot of posts already on MIDI foot controllers and I thank everyone who's contributed to them. I'm at the point where I'm finally going to be buying one myself, however, and I'm a bit torn over whether to spend the extra $150 or so Canadian dollars for the Roland FC-300 or save it ...

I've found one for sale for $450 CAN and am seriously considering getting it. What thinks you all? The reviews look really good and for being in pretty much mint condition it looks to be a good deal. Advice?

Scala
I've been wondering how to make Scala run for a while and any help would be appreciated. I'm running it on a 2 GHZ MacBook running OSX Tiger. When I click on its icon it opens, but then there doesn't seem to be anyway to even open a window. What am I missing here?

I'm having the same trouble: exporting my mix and ending up with a six minute track of silence. Also, when Live finishes exporting it freezes my M-Audio interface until I close Live completely at which point it starts working again. I've tried it in both Session and Arrangement view following the ...

Slowing down + sound glitches when audio monitoring...
I'm really hoping someone can help with this as it's bloody annoying, but as the title says when I hit the arm session button for my guitar input my whole track starts having tempo wobbles and sound glitches. Strangely it only recently started doing this. I've gone through re-setting up my audio I/O ...
