I would think Spectrum is able to do this? I'm sure Limiter also tells you the peak volume for a track every time you play it.

I'm looking for a plugin that will take an input signal of audio and read the pitch or note. Is there something like that out there? Maybe someone knows how to program something like that.

Reason being, I think it would be useful in making instruments from samples and being able to play along with ...

What are some common VST Plug-ins that you guys use for Mastering tracks?

Any free VST's worthwhile?

try loopmasters.com or something, they have plenty of sample packs that you can preview. Personally I have never had a problem with the packs that ableton offers and I use their sounds to customize different instruments regularly
