ahhh, got it figured out. I tried all the Midi/Sync Input and Output ports and found that I needed to select "USB Audio Device (2)" for the APC and it now works.

I'm trying to use both an Akai APC40 with an Akai MPD24 with Live 8.1.4 on a windows XP machine going directly into the USB ports on the laptop (not a hub). When I connect only the APC40 (without the MPD24) the APC40 works fine and shows the red clip launch box and automapping to clips and controls ...
