Joel,
You're right - DMXIS zeroes all 512 DMX channels when it is first opened, so yes, it would play havoc with your stage lights between songs.
BUT... if you can't find a solution using Live 8 setlists or whatnot, I can probably remove this behaviour - so that the DMXIS hardware interface "holds ...

Re: DMXIS lighting control software - beta testing
Does the DMXIS hardware unit have any advantages over the Enttec DMX usb pro?
The DMXIS hardware has a 1/4" footswitch input, which lets you use any standard footswitch (single or dual non-latching) to control banks & presets on-stage. It has both 3 and 5 pin DMX outputs, which saves you hunting ...

Re: midi lighting from ableton
If you just want to drive a couple of regular lamps using Live MIDI clips (like the YouTube video above) grab one of these and stick a MIDI cable into it.
If you want to control some DMX lights (LED spots, intelligent scanners, moonflowers etc) then use something like DMXIS - it's a VST/AU plugin ...

Re: DMXIS lighting control software - beta testing
Thanks chaps, it did feel really good to get this one released. It was a long, slow burner of a project, partly because it grew into a hardware development as well! For anyone who's still interested, Enttec are now shipping DMXIS. You can watch some training videos of it in action here...

Re: DMXUSBPro & MaxMSP...translate midi to DMX....I am lost
Hi Jeremy,
You might find some helpful pointers over at the Cycling '74 forums... I'm not familiar with MaxMSP, but this looked like a possible starting point...

I wish DMXIS would just hurry up and come out ...

MIDI-DMX interface boxes are the "lowest level" way to control a DMX lighting rig from Live. You basically use MIDI CC curves, clips & automation to control the DMX lighting channels one by one. It's perhaps not the most efficient way to program a light show, but Hambone - the resident expert here ...

MIDI-DMX boxes are great if you like getting your hands dirty with MIDI controllers. But they only provide low level control over the lights - you need to patch your DMX equipment manually, and build your own library of CC curves & special effects from scratch. It can be difficult if not impossible ...

Hi guys,
Thanks to everyone who has responded so far, we'll get back to you with more details of the DMXIS beta testing program soon.
I forgot to mention an important fact - unlike most lighting software, DMXIS supports both Windows and OS X Universal. We need beta testers on both platforms, so if ...
