I think when support says "it's a problem with the audio clip", they meant the Audio Clip abstraction inside Live that refers to a source audio file, not the source audio file.

The problem is the lack of warning, you won't even know there is a file management problem to solve, lack of warning is not user error, Live is not properly showing a file was missing and it was silently replaced with the default (completely changing the Set).

I agree with OP, this a bad problem that is worse than it sounds at first.

I just did a little test, 1 instance of Convolution Reverb in a otherwise empty new Set, loaded a random WAV file I copied to Desktop, saved Set, deleted random WAV file from Desktop.

From my tests Melodyne was not much better than Live for converting to MIDI, it was a bit better with some material but a bit worse with some other, definitely demo it before spending any money.

BTW, just remembered, with Cakewalk Sonar (now Bandlab Cakewallk) it was possible to use Melodyne audio ...

Most likely you have Suite-only devices in those few sessions that give you problems.

That uses MIDI Map Mode. it only works with external MIDI, not internal MIDI nor Computer Keyboard.

You can use a virtual MIDI loopback to send MIDI outside then back into Live.

I think that was added in Live 11.

Turning on "Pitch Lock" in Live 11/12 makes Draw Mode behave like in the older Live 10/9/8/etc. versions.

Maybe use a knob to map instead? Then you can see if the knob is turned to the left or right (and it is harder to move by accident).
