Re: To old people: Technology isn’t perfect/doesn’t last forever

I can definitely feel your pain, beats. My mom, also 76, had a ton of issues with some 12 year old HP machine about 6 years ago. Clunker from the beginning. She called me, and wouldn't do anything I told her to do, over the course of around 2 years. I finally got sick of it, so I bought her a Mac Mi...

Re: Roger Waters joined by Dave Gilmour at the O2 arena

Definitely something I would have liked to see. On the other hand, my Floyd days went away a long time ago. I never saw them when they were the full band... meaning, it was the Gilmour days... no Roger. And I really like Roger. The times I've seen the Gilmour version of Floyd, and I don't mean any d...

Re: I hate days like this... layoffs

Just a quick reply for Tarekith:
We're in the same city.

You can almost have both here.
And it's definitely a good (financial) ride if it lasts. :-)

Re: I hate days like this... layoffs

I've done both as well. In fact, twice as much of the free-spirit thing than the classically-responsible thing, actually. :-) Can't decide which I'd like better. I have a wife, two kids and a mortgage... beyond that I can ditch anything, but I can't ditch that. So I have to take it seriously. On the...

Re: I hate days like this... layoffs

If I remember correctly, this is the 6th or 7th time at just this company. And yeah... they can just pull it out. Sometimes its just simple numbers. The first few layoffs here were just that: numbers. We either drop half the staff, or close the doors. That was right after I started, a few months aft...

I hate days like this... layoffs

 It had to happen, eventually. We had a re-org a few months ago... new CEO... new upper-management... re-organized mid-management. I figured at some point it would trickle down to our level, and apparently today's the day. Actually, the three employees are in a closed office right now. Not wha...

Re: bitching about negative people

Hehehe... I'll refrain from the irony of the post title, and just say: If people are thinking about leaving a job where they actually get a bonus right now, well... good luck with that. We're getting a bonus, and a salary adjustment this year, and I'm shocked with that. They have my loyalty for at l...

Re: RAM Frequences

There can be compatibility issues, particularly if the CAS latency is significantly different, or if the voltage requirements don't match. Try to get latencies that are within 1 point of each other, and voltages that are identical, and you should be good. I wouldn't recommend mixing memory with 2.1v...

Re: RAM Frequences

Is this a desktop or a laptop? These guys, if you're in the states, have 667 memory for desktops at least... probably for laptops too, but I didn't check. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%20600006098&IsNodeId=1&name=DDR2%20667%20%28PC2%205300%29 In any event, if ...

Re: So I did MDMA last Friday...

My biggest gripe about MDMA (and it's called ecstasy for a reason) is that you'll look at a friend on the ground and NOT be able to connect to the needs of the moment at all.

Need to go to the hospital... nobody knows it... they can't quite connect.

We'll see if this fixes it:

Wish I had the new one. My work got me the last model about 2 weeks before the new ones came out.
I could have had a quad... arghhh...

Ah well, it's a free computer. :-)

Re: Japan earthquake

So far, we've found Minoru, his wife and kids (the kids are thankfully in Tokyo now). They (Minoru and his wife) moved to Sendai proper last year (don't remember that happening, but very good news), so even their house was mostly fine (standing). The power/phones/etc fluctuates from off to slightly ...

Even the most extreme of us thinks the others are way douchier than we are and that we have the acceptible amount of fanboyism. :x Seriously nailed it... or... This (never said that before) I was at a restaurant this afternoon (a bit distracted by the japan stuff, though), and was amazed... probabl...

Re: Japan earthquake

My wife's entire family is from Sendai, including our favorite uncle who has a water-front house there. Most have moved inland, but even then they got a seriously massive earthquake... 5th in recorded history and 1st in Japanese history since the 17-hundreds. He (Minoru) was probably at work and qui...

Re: iPad

Yeah, Apple phases out old devices faster than some others, usually via OS updates being unsupported on older devices. I'm always on the fence with that. On the one hand, I like "charging ahead" with the tech, and not overly bloating (and in some cases hindering) that advancement with backward compa...
