I got sick of my relentlessly shitty hairdo's and unsympathetic hairdressers so I bought myself a hat and wore it all last year. Now I'm receding like a mofo. Not sure if the two are related, but I've stopped wearing the hat just in case.

I can just tell I'm gonna be one of those bald guys with an ...

If vocals are multi-tracked I tend to compress/eq them as a group, and then process any backing vocals as another group. Compression is still something of a dark art to me, though.

I find I don't mind spending time editing if the track turns out well. I hate it when you spend ages editing and micro-editing only to be struck by the revelation "wait a minute...this track sucks!". Consequently I now try and be very sure I like the track before I go near any automation etc.

I reckon it's great so far. It's definitely not a "one-size-fits-all" type thing, but what it does, it does really well. I also like the lack of a knobular interface. I've managed to make quite a few patches already, which is unusual for me, not being much of a programmer. I was layering some of the ...

I love this so far. Great for making "distressed" sounding instruments, as well as "alien choir organ in a giant bucket" sounds. Also great to see a synth for people with deficient knob-twiddling skills.

On PC right-click on the waveform and "manage sample file" brings up the edit button. I've never tried on a mac, but could it be apple-click or second-from-the-left-but-one click or something?

you can't polish a turd...
I've got a display case full of gleaming turds that says otherwise...

Thanks for the links. Although I don't think there's quite enough.

I find sometimes I get just one line stuck in my head for weeks on end. The worst case was a couple of months of the "had a very shiny nose" line from "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer". Over and over and over...

I use a lot of sound generator-type Reaktor ensembles and usually just automate the track mute button (if I'm in arrange view) or automate the volume with a blank midi clip (if I'm in session view).

Another favourite is answering the phone with a gruff "Yeah" instead of "Hello". Particularly if you're a hard-nosed detective with his/her own brand of justice. Can also be substituted for "Talk to me".
