Problem is now fixed - I bought BELKIN F5U513 3 port FW card

went in like soft buttah

all is well now, VERDICT = stay away from SYBA and HP FW combo cards with a PIII laptop and the FW 410

the BELKIN has the TI chipset

well I have to say that going to www.musicxp.net is the first thing to do., but be aware that by doing so you are really in the DAW camp, i.e. if you have other important things from your life on your computer, think twice before you turn off system restart points, etc

thanks and here's some more info

i have XP SP2 and I am current on WIN updates, the fw drivers came with the HP combo card, I went to the www.microinv.com/hp site and they don't list any updates.....are there MS files I should be seeking as well, i.e what is the "firewire patch for winxp sp2" you mentioned??

as for the chip set ...

the fan does not play part in this problem

It's not like it works for a while and thengoes South , the 410 when installed allows Live to act normal until you hit the play button or preview a clip....nada happens, the clock never starts, just sits there ....Live still functions in other ways, you can open clips and move them in an out, change ...

m-audio firewire 410 problems, it hangs Live

I have a IBM T-23 PIII laptop and I am trying to use a M-audio Firewire 410 interface with an HP 4 port combo card. It hangs Live, FruityLoops and Winamp.

The same computer card combo supports my old USB Quattro interface just fine. and the 410 works great on several P4 laptops, I have done the ...

I am using WinXP SP2 with a M-audio Uno or Quattro MIDI interface depending on if I am using outboard synths

again with no interface attached, Rebirth says No MIDI attached when it boots up and Live can only see the audio output, the Live MIDI outs show Maple ports available but Rebirth doesn't ...

I am using Rebirth as a rewire client to Live and it works great, BUT unless I plug in an outboard synth and external MIDI port to my computer I can not route MIDI from Live to Rebirth's MIDI note mappings. slaving live to external audio - get a RedSound Voyager 1

the RedSound Voyager 1 ( or cheaper Micro synch) listens to audio and generates a midi clock.. i use it to synch ableton to my vinyl on the technics....should be easy to send an audio feed from your drummer to do the same thing....

where do you make "priority settings"?

USB quattro 4X4 is caca

Does anyone have the quattro USB 4X4 working wiht Live 4.X??? I did the USB hub power management checkbox trick and while it helped (Now I crash in 30 minutes instead of 30 seconds, especially saving my file) ....I also turned off the onboard sound card driver..no improvement, This is an IBM T22 ...

Voyager 1 is dead simple..highly recommended

voyager 1 set up is easy

audio goes in (line or deck)
audio goes thru to mixer (same level no preamp)

midi clock out goes wherever you send it

start your cd or record, wait a few seconds to have voyager calculate the beat and then hit the start button, that will send a synched MIDI start and ...

CoreSound sells a pair of Low cost binaural mics for $75 that are are fabulous for portable recording....they are the size of a 2 pencil erasers with a little alligotor clip and have the small jack you need ......I have a pair and I think they are great.
