for what its worth i bought a 2ghz Dell Inspiron 6000 and it is solid as with my M-Audio Firewire Audiophile. I have been using it for Live sets and studio work using FL Studio and its great. Have 2 use a PCMCIA firewire card but no drama - $30..
How about a CNTRL-something (or a button) that locks the current project playing so if you accidentaly hit the space bar you aren't f**k*d??

rengel if you are looking for a controller keyboard maybe take a look at the photon 25 (cheaper now as they have brought out the photon x25) or the m-audio O2.. both these are ideal and may be about the size of thing you are after...

hmmm, but here in New Zealand I can get the inspiron 6000 for about the same price as the 8600 and i PCI-e aside the bus is faster as is the ram. so i guess what i am wondering is will i be disadvantaged by getting this laptop?
