back on topic....

about half of the stuff I do is "original" as defined in the first post and the other half I'm a "gun for hire". I execute other people's ideas weather it's songs or jingles/bumpers. they'll say, "I need something like this by the end of the dayt, here's some money". and I'll ...

all i know is what my ears tell me and I find it more labor intensive to get the sound i'm looking for when i'm mixing 16+ tracks in live and i prefer Protools for this.

Having said that, without live I wouldn't be able to manipulate audio as easily or quickly come up with arrangements or dj/play ...

Dimension Pro is an excellent VI. I've had mine for about a month now and I can say I'm very impressed not only with the quality of sounds but the light CPU usage...

One drawback, for some of the bigger libraries (GCO patches) you need quite a bit of RAM. I currently have 1 gig in my G5 and plannig ...

this also happens with me...sent support an email earlier today. If the beta fixes this, where can i get it. I have a mix to finish for a client and this is the first time i've tried live in a pro-environment (for a client) instead of protools and i'm really disappointed right now.

It would be interesting to find out if the quality is a function of live's internal routings, or just live's sound engine.

I think rewire could be used as a means to test this. Once live is rewired into another app (track for track as opposed to rewiring the master output) live's own routings ...

Interesting article.
I havent realized Rane as a digital audio company yet.
But its however true that Yamaha went up to 56 bit floating point and there new mixingdesks sum much better than the older 02r generation.
And its also true that some older designs sound better as the 02R aswell..

I just did the test here,
played back a clean loop unwarped in ableton and in nero wave editor and I can´t hear any difference.

Both used my yamaha XG internal soundcard.
