how the heck do you record an instrument thru a mic via an audio interface and a backing track (midi, etc) and be able to hear backing track thru headphones, so i can play with backing!! confused newbie thanks for any help john

i'm down in central st. pete...just bought m-audio mobile pre usb and it included ableton live and i upgraded to 7.015 but am having some probs trying to get it to work! hope to get it operating soon! it looks like a cool program!!
