Re: Question - warping without warping?

Thanks,

I have experience adjusting warp markers and snapping a song into a predefined tempo. What I'm not sure of is going the other direction, getting Live's metronome and grid to be just as off-rhythm as the recording, and then at that point introducing a subtle quantize to clean things up ...

Question - warping without warping?

I just recorded a bunch of tracks from a live jazz group and they were recorded without a metronome and with many tempo changes. What I would like to do is align all of the warp markers without actually warping the track, so that Ableton knows where the sections and measures and such are (making ...

Beat mashing, smart knobs, overdub, and discreet clips

I think these three ideas are getting very popular and would personally make my day. They all relate to obstacles I have found in setting up a live looping workflow, which I feel is why Live stands out from the rest. I think these changes would also benefit DJs who improvise and don't plan out ...

Re: Live beat chopping?

Thanks, I was under the impression you could only light the pads on the PadKontrol via SysEx messages, which require that you switch it to Native mode. If they light the pads using MIDI or some other method, that opens up a lot of other cool possibilities as well :).

Re: Live beat chopping?

That sounds promising :)

I'm still curious, will it co-exist with other scenes that are just for normal drum racks, or does it "own" the Pad/Kontrol (i.e. native mode)?

Re: Live beat chopping?

Sweet, thanks!

I'll try to dig into this tonight :). Does it override the PadKontrol or is it possible to make it a new scene I can switch to?

Re: Live beat chopping?

I am indeed running on Mac, part of why I haven't gotten the MotherGarage method working yet...I'd be interested to see how it works, I've been trying to dissect the Aurex JigSine template but it's still eluding me :).

Re: Live beat chopping?

Thanks for all the great replies! I've got more research to do now :).

To specify on what I was saying, I don't mind workarounds or funky rigged up solutions so long as:

1. I don't have to record the audio in advance of the performance (I want it all to be live and improvised)
2. I don't have to ...

Re: Live beat chopping?

Wow, don't know how I missed that one! Those apps look pretty damn cool...do you know if they totally override the APC or are like an alternate scene? I use the standard APC controls a lot but this might be even better than I was looking for. Looks like I could have the clip chopping I wanted and ...

Live beat chopping?

I've been down so many tracks for ways to do beat chopping (like MLR or MPCs), but every solution I find has to be set up in advance. I want to record tracks live using various instruments and MIDI devices and somehow be able to "juggle" (or whatever it's called) a track monome style without first ...

Re: Discreet loop recording?

Thanks for the reply, Bob :)

I've been looking around the forums and coming to pretty much the same conclusion. I wonder if there is just a way to have every clip I record automatically get cloned 8 tracks over, so that track 1 clips would already exist in track 9 for example. Then I could ...

Re: What Do I Sound Like?

How about jamtronica? I hear this moniker used for bands like Sound Tribe Sector Nine, EOTO and Disco Biscuits who improvise electronic music live using Ableton and other software. If you haven't heard of them, give them a listen, they are very similar to what you're doing. Sirius has a show that ...

Discreet loop recording?

Hi all,

I'd like to be able to record a loop into a clip slot without it being audible in a live performance, while still keeping the previous clip playing. My goal is to layer up the first section of a song in a row, and then to discreetly record the next row while the first part continues to ...
