heres something odd,
the drop outs seem to occurr more quickly if you use a mixture of bit rates in your samples / clips, which got me thinking.....

i've run the same basic set 14 channels of a mixture of long and short clips
using only 16bit wav ,only 24 bitwav versions and a mixture of 16 and 24 ...

the 'moving tempo' you are experiencing is very large so some problem there.
BUT you will see some movement in tempo (plus or minus approx0.4bpm @130bpm) as the resolution of midi time code self corrects itself for non-rational numbers (x.333333 recurring etc) by rounding up or down to ...

it's a good bit of software, and if used creatively is a very powerful tool..too many people use it as a 'ptich fix' package, but can potentially be used to play with pitch the way abelton "plays" with time.

I've had same problem, can be overcome if you max out your RAM...and it is a bug in PT rewire implementation...a similar problem can happen with reason when sending a lot of rewire channels into PT.

Use a firewire hard drive for audio/samples...
Glyph net drives are good (or any 7200rpm, 8mb cache firewire hard drive)

This should get rid of 99.9% of your problems

here's an idea for u guys-----
why not use imaginative use of panning to achieve your goal, remember auto panning can set up an moving template for solos and outputs etc...stop thinking so laterally about output limitations....its software to play with (the best kind of software IMHO)

the itunes tip is good...even create mp3's of tracks (left chann-mono mix of your track, right chann- click track) to use as a replacement track until live reboots.

All I Want Is,
recall of track activation, when loading a session
