There is also a CD tutorial with video files. I have it and it is done well. I am a visual learner so I got a lot out of it. It covers the basics of operation as well as some advanced things. The CD is by Propellerhead.

sounds good I think it sounds progressive because of the long break you have going. i would say though that there is some background noise going on from the effects and layered instruments. maybe simplify some portions towards the end and make it groove a little more by pumping the bass drums more ...

listen to some tracks you like. write down the structure of tracks. this way you will have templates to work from to use as a basic form and to modify for your own sound. this way you can focus on the sound ratrher than the structure, your time will be spent better this way. you could have templates ...

I have a VAIO FRV37 and it does fine, no problems. I only have 512MB ram too. I also got a great deal on eBay, so it depends what you have to spend adn what you are willing to compromise. I like my VAIO.
