Re: How to know the note of a sample
pitch it up one octave and the root will pop out. if not then it's 'atonal' so you might not need to worry about pitch.

Re: cpu and audio buffer
well nevermind, seems the power setting reset itself since i did have it on high power. (maybe one of the updates did that?)
everything's fine now though. and i'm using a firebox, it's been a real tank throughout the years.

cpu and audio buffer
after building an i7 6700 pc and upgrading to live 9 i see that i'm still not able to go past a similar plugin amount as with my old c2d (and live 8) without getting crackles at 1024 samples. with that being said i'm still running some old fw400 hardware so how much would thunderbolt really improve ...

asio4all vs device asio
i moved back to windows after almost a decade of being spoiled by core audio in os x and i was hoping for some of your experiences with asio4all vs. the asio that comes with sound cards. personally i seem to get the same performance with either driver in terms of the daw but asio4all doesn't let me ...

Re: How do you approach recording bass gutiar without an amp?
of course it doesn't sound "great", ableton's amp and cab aren't exactly stellar if you're looking to compare to actual amps. that being said even if you get this amazing pre you're still going to run into the same issue so look at actual amp emus if you're looking to sound like a real ele...

Re: ableton differ on export
dithering is something you do when downsampling (aka when rendering a master), otherwise don't bother.

Re: Looking for a good VST Synth for around $200
i'd vote zebra all the way. it's my most used synth, it does most of what i need and i'd never part with it. on the other hand if you're looking for all the cool premade dubstep presets then massive is the synth you should be getting.

Re: External HD question
modern hard drives haven't been too loud. and again, unless you're loading 32/192 orchestra libraries or mixing large audio files of that fidelity an ssd isn't really needed especially with live loading samples in ram.

Re: Serum vs. Zebra - a meaningful comparison?
@LFO8 yeah except zebra had a bug that wouldn't remember the theme or zoom lever so it would revert to default right after it was closed. time to check out that update.

Re: External HD question
lol unless you're loading massive libraries the ssd is overkill. most usb3 hdds with good ratings should be fine, plus live loads samples in ram by default so there's no speed bottleneck there.

Re: Serum vs. Zebra - a meaningful comparison?
zebra <3
@pencilrocket yeah, zebra's gui is my only gripe with the synth. it's very old though and they're working on zebra 3 which is also supposed to feature a new (read better) interface.

Re: Tips for Making a Solid Sub-Bass
@Stromkraft well that's really up to what you're trying to accomplish. depending on the other stuff around the sub a simple sine can be enough to get a solid bass. with that being said my main subs are basically a sine with a saw on top and low passed until the only thing you hear are neighbors scre...
