Trillian
Re: Trillian
Looks/sounds really nice. I love the Chapman Stick. I wonder if they'll do a guitar instrument next?

Re: Trillian
wow... long install.
but i got it working in Live 8.0.8 on my macbook pro 2.33 ghz with 3gb of ram.
seems like it uses around 17-18% of CPU in Live.
ETA - bummer that the synth patches are not yet available... and won't be until December.

Re: Trillian
On a related note, I watched 10 or 15 minutes of one of the videos the other day and got an overwhelming feeling that these sounds are not for me. I would much rather use an instrument or a real synth or the softsynths I already have. Trilian was too glossy sounding in the demo. It sounded like Guitar Center to me.rbro wrote:Watching the videos now. I have to say that these guys really make some incredible stuff.
Not my cup of tea. If it's your cup of tea, cheers! I'll have a scone.

its a sampled bass instrument...it sounds like a bass that you can play on a keyboard.

Re: Trillian
It doesn't mean anything. The sounds in the demo video were too polished sounding for my tastes.
Re: Trillian
Know what you're saying, but ime you need to look beyond the Spectrasonics demos/videos, where they typically display the more slick end of their instruments. Imo there's plenty of dirty, quirky effed up stuff to be had within, and if not, I take it outside and mess it up real good. Right now tho, I'm thinking I'd like to layer some picked P-Bass and Metasonix Assblaster.Hidden Driveways wrote:It doesn't mean anything. Re: Trillian
give me 60 seconds and i can dirty up any sound. anyone can. isn't the point to start w/a clean source and then do w/said sound what you like?polyslax wrote:Know what you're saying, but ime you need to look beyond the Spectrasonics demos/videos, where they typically display the more slick end of their instruments. Not always. That's one way to go about it, but not a hard rule at all.citizenchris099 wrote: isn't the point to start w/a clean source and then do w/said sound what you like?
The matter is that this is a $280 instrument. Some people may want to invest that money into this instrument, others may want to invest that cash elsewhere.
Re: Trillian

my point is this....you drop that kind of coin on a sample instrument i want it to sound as good as possible.

Re: Trillian
You guys know of course the same basic arguments were given when samplers came out? To me anyway, a sample of a 'real' bass player is it's own thing, as much as a synth bass Trillion. I'm not that fond of romplers, but I see the point, and to me at least, it's not about recreating a great players exact style it's about evoking the style etc. In other words some people will use this to make really terrible sounding copies of really good jazz etc. and others will use it to fill in the cut and paste nature of electronic music.
That said, I'm getting a bass as soon as funds provide, been thinking about it for a while and I have plenty of sampled basses etc. no need for another 30gig+ library I'll only use 1 Gig of sitting on my hard drive. H20 any recommendations in the $500 range? I'm fine used BTW, tend to think you get better deals than new etc.

^ ibanez or yamaha. 500 bones will get you a real nice one...
I wouldn't buy a Fender without playing it first. Some of them are way too twangy for my taste while others sound divine.
I prefer some meat on my bass lines... If you can find a used Gibson SG around 5 bills you can get some beef out of that.

Re: Trillian
My stepfather had a Gibson Ripper, that thing weighed a freaking ton, but it sounded really good. Wouldn't buy anything Gibson new now, the company has turned into another shark den, ask old time DAW users about Opcode, and read the rage! Sad, because I've always preferred Gibson guitars.H20nly wrote:^ ibanez or yamaha. 500 bones will get you a real nice one...

This is all in the future, probably May or so. The SG is definitely style wise, more my cup of tea.
